4 full DIMM's question.

Guys I have a D865PERL mobo from Intel. I was reading the thread Ram 101 here on the forums by Praetor where he stated:
"What Happens When I Run a System with 4 DIMMs Filled?
What happens when you have all 4 DIMMS populated with RAM? In many cases, your memory clock will drop to the second highest clock speed (provided the memory was able to run at the highest supported clock speed natively). Just look at any older motherboard manual for evidence of this.
"

Basically wanted to know if this holds true for my mobo, which I wanted to populate wth four ddr400 non-ecc unbuffered pieces of Ram. does this mean i will be running them at ddr333, pc2700?

dont know if thats the ase with that motherboard.. I have 4 dimm's in my pc, and its running at ddr400 speeds.

There was nothing in the manual about it and I didn't see anything on the Intel site so I'd think that having all 4 slots populated will still run DDR400.

I have been told by many IT guys & shops that having the MAXIMUM supported amount of RAM in a MB can cause strange things to happen including slowing down its overall speed.
I.E. My M/B manual says it supports upto 4GB of ram(1GB max per slot). The people i have bought my ram from (and who would normally be happy to sell me more) told me not to run the MAX, and to instead run 3GB...2x1GB & 2x 512MB

Not to sure on the science behind it...but maybe that was what Praetor was talking about.

If i was to do that the 3 gb example you gave, would I still be able to use Hyperthreading? I have a 3.4 ghz p4. I would of course buy the same speed ram pc3200 for the 512MB pieces.
