Linux is awesome...!!!

So i finally got everything to work on my Ubuntu, and it is so freaking awesome. Being able to customize everything is so sweet and there is so much software available. I finally got wireless to work and found a wireless detector, play mp3 and WMA(but not w/ DRM(DAMN DRM!!). I found the printer driver but the installation help was all in French so i dont know what i did, just C&P code. And there are no MS updates, it has not froze or crashed once, and i have had to reason to reboot unintentionally. Awesome. I understand all the hype now.

Here are some Screenshots. I know its not the greatest, but i think its awesome and i am pleased.

The two main drawbacks found here when multi OSing with Linux was locating working drivers for the board and hardwares alike plus getting the internet connection going. The latest ubuntu 6.10 failed to see this as well.

few problems though

i also have ubuntu 6.10 installed along with XP.
but there a couple of problems with because of which i dont use it much.
first thing is the start-up time.every time i start ubuntu i have to wait a long time before i can log in as it performs a disk check everytime and still cant correct the errors it finds.
there is no game support.plus there is no 64 bit version of WINE available.
plus you need a good internet connection to fully make use of all the features it offers.

once the first two problems are solved i have no doubt that UBUNTU will rule the market:D

One of the main reasons I keep going after live distros is the abilty to retreive data and files from different hard drives when a Windows installation becomes inaccessible. The gui is clean while the brightness of the default background was annoying when first loading the 6.10 live cd. And yes the hardware detection process there took quite a bit longer then other live distros like Knoppix and Gentoo.

I can't even get to the home page there. That site is totally down at the moment. I'll try there in several hours to see if they are back up.

Downloaded OpenSuse 10.2 DVD the other night and installed it, it was pretty good. Need to log back into it and torrent Ubuntu 6 to have it on hand. Currently my computer at home is downloading Dreamlinux which is supposed to be very Mac OS X like in its look, as well as alot of the bundled software and such.

That's no surprise there since each new distro offers one or more items to support Windows apps as well as improving the installer along with drive partitioning and formatting tools. PCLinux is another that gets a good boost by several who have used it.

A friend of mine has all of his house computers running that XGL Desktop. It's not as good as it looks, but then again I personally would never run something like that on my computers because it would do my head in with all the bouncy effects etc. It looks good for about the first 5 minutes but then it just gets annoying.

I agree. It is nice to show off with (yes, it does look good), but that's just about it.

PCLinuxOS is pretty good, as far as beginner distro's go. Ubuntu is great because it's at the upper crest of the beginner distro's. It's user friendly and picks up hardware very well, but its good enough that some "hardcore" linux folks can find themselves using it as well. Course...my other linux friends are all about slack and gent.

im still in the process of sorting linux out! got a book and everything on it! should have it running soon!

If you are new to ubuntu, there is a book called ubuntu for the non geeksor something like that. I got it from my univ. library and it is really good.

I've been running Beryl (OpenGL accelerated desktop) since not long after it first came out, you can use moderate effects without them being annoying at all. You can turn anything on or off and change various settings to have it just the way you like it.

Once I get a sata array going here for storage I'll some room to multi OS again on the 2nd 250gb ide drive to run some of the newer distros out. But getting one configured for dsl here has been annoying.
