Why is it so hard to buy a computer????????

A friend of mine had a computer built at comp usa, even after I offered to build him one at no charge....he claimed he was getting a good warenty and he could trade in any part for an upgraded part and pay the difference, which I'd sure is bullshit. I doubt they will even honor the warrenty.

Well when he got it we opened up the case and took a look and it was a joke. There was no cable management going on. It looked like some incomptent tech just thorugh the pc together with no care at all. The power supply had some problems and wouldn't work correctly which had to be swapped out. It was a huge rip off and those huge shops like best buy are comp usa are scams.

You're best bet would be to buy from a reputable online place like dell or hp or something. Or you could talk to the guys at your local computer shop, if you have one.

Good input, thank you

I do not know e-machines.....I always thought that they were a beginners machine for e-mail and solitaire....LOL

When you spoke about the "oil change"...and you are aware of the programs that I run.....about 6 different programs.....are you speaking of the "spark plugs" as being a bad power supply, bad this or bad that and it sets off a chain of bad happenings..

Elliot

When I said that the spark plugs aren't being changed I meant that perhaps the registry cleaners are not enough, do you use other programs?

Like free virus programs, AVG, or Kaspersky.
Anti spy wares, Spy Sweeper, Spybot search and destroy, Ad-Aware SE Personal
And maybe a few other programs like Hijackthis, or RegCleaner

I use all of the above to keep my computer clean, and running smoothly. Most of those should be run on a weekly basis to insure a clean machine. One of the most common reasons for poorly running computers is they get backed up and clogged.

Now you will laugh....everday I have Outlook, 2 I.E. windows, Quickbooks, an order process program and 1 excel spreadsheet......that is how I use the machine......yes it was overkill but I wanted performance and this machine was no faster than my IBM laptop.

As far as e-machines being for beginners, that may be so as they are cheap and a good way to get into computing for almost nothing. But if it does what you need it to do, then why spend needless more money on something extra that you wont be using anyways.

I am not saying a cheap computer is going to fix the issues you are having, I am just letting you know my experiences.

Also I use FireFox internet browser it runs so much smoother than IE I can have 20 tabs open without noticing any slow down, I also dabble into stock/futures trading and I am running multiple monitors.

I run 2 FireFox browsers with multiple tabs (usually java sites for charting ect.), streaming stock quotes, other java programs running 8 to 12 java applications, a chat program, word documents, and everything runs fine, so much for beginners computer, it’s in my sig… I have done a few upgrades…

Hi Bramp

Good point Bramp,

I run PC-Cillin Internet security, Registry Repair Pro, PconPont, Web Washer, Spy bot, Super Anti Spy, AVG and I probably have a few more programs that I cannot recall.

I defrag, get rid of all TMP files automatically, I pretty much have a clean computer from top to bottom.....so go figure!!!!

I am obsessive about files I don't need and I get rid of them. The computer is backed up every day at 4am with Retrospect.

There is nothing that is overlooked....crazy, huh?

how do you get rid of all temp files automatically?

Temp files

Please let me clarify....

In my haste it should have read:

I have all the delted e-mails emtied from the folder when closing Outlook Express and/or Outlook and I consistently delete temp files by either going to tools and deleting them in I.E. or System Mechanic does it when it runs.

Hope this clears things up.

Elliot

ok sorry, this 3 page thread was off into different tangents and i didnt know which one we were in...

so anyway build one! its so easy, i built my first one last week and it is solid as a rock. its too easy, dont be scared by pre built pathetic companies, they suck. so i suggest you either learn or let one of us build it for you, like core2conroe. we cant rip you off in anyway, we love doing this stuff.

what is your budget? what state do you live in?

Well that’s great that you use all those programs, and knowing to use those programs means you know how to use a computer, and I only say that because of some of the other post referring to the “user” being the problem, which is a little rude without knowing anything about you.

It’s a shame the computer industry is going to crap, there are other users besides you complaining about quality, it seems the only way around it is to build your own, but seeing you don’t have the time means you are going to have to chose between 3 choices.

1. Buy another prebuilt computer and hope for the best.

2. Try and take time out of your schedule to build one.

3. Pay some one else to build one.

I like number 2 the best. From the information that I have learned here on this forum I can’t see ever wanting to buy a prebuilt computer ever. It looks as like most users even ones that have never built before report having almost no issues, although having some is possible. I think getting them resolved fast would not be a problem seeing how helpful these guys here are. I would highly recommend trying to build one or getting one built. I know it might be tuff with a busy schedule but I think it would pay off.

lol look at a guy like me trying to sell you and I have never done it before myself, that’s just to prove how fascinated I am with this..

Alright don’t let me windbag this… haha :D

i second and third that

i built my first one last week with a couple months on this forum and it was so incredibly easy. look at the computer in my signature, i bet it could own any prebuilt for 2k that you have wasted your time with. it is the sweetest computer ever, and for under 1000 for the entire tower and everything

i could build the same one which i know for sure works and send it to you. i can assure you that you would have no problems like that again.

Thank you

Great Input......a diversity of opinions brings out the truth.

Now you good folks have me thinking Gateway or AVA Direct......Why? The sensible approach to a good CPU (Dual Core), 2 gigs Ram, a decent Video Card without 512 etc.....I already run 2 monitors...a 2407 Dell WFP and a 22" WFP Dell so I need dual DVI.

I don't need any software....well, err.....MS XP Professional...I do not want to be the first on my street to have Vista...I can wait til SP 1 comes out. And I don't need all the BLOATWARE.

Any final thoughts before we put this puppy to bed?

Thank you

Elliot
