I am trying to install windows xp on my Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250620AS 250GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive. I am reformatting my hd right now and after its finished i am going to start to install xp. I have read alot about how to do it and i know everything but I'm just stuck on one part. because my HD is sata i need to install the drivers for it by pressing F6 during the installation process. I am getting the drivers off my mobo disk right now by going in to "BootDrv/MENU.exe" But i don not know what driver to install on the floppy. I am not useing RAID. All i did was connected my SATA hd directly to the Intel ICH8 connector. I am only using one hd. Here is a picture of where im confused. http://i5.tinypic.com/2s9sv84.jpg...The system I'm trying to install xp on is in my sig..Currently i am getting the STOP error. go here to view my post about that stupid error.

You only need drivers if the windows installer can't see the drive. You have the drive plugged into one of the ICH8 SATA ports not one of the 2 different coloured ones right?

Yes. its plugged into the Intel ones not the gigabyte ones.
Just as a test i put my HD in my other PC and tried to install windows and it worked just fine with no problems. So i dont think it my HD that is the problem. I think its my mobo. But i dont know what to do.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLUM! LOL! I had to install some "Third Party RAID Drivers" as it put it, where when you load the OS CD it boots up the disk it says "press-something- if you have the 3 party RAID drivers" It happened cuz I was from IDE to SATA with no IDE. You must use a floppy disk though. Its very annoying but it can be dealt with.

the thing is i dont know what drivers i need. because i bought my hd bare bone. and it didnt come with a driver floppy.

same here. Its was the MOBO drivers, but that was with a socket a MOBO... But yes it is very fixable. Try all of them. That's what I did and magically after one of them it worked! Although a smarter idea would have to been to format the SATA with the computer on using the IDE as your boot u...If I had thought of that I wouldn't have been in the same position you are in now. RAID or not you need those installed.

Edit- if you used the CD code once already it will not work again. ever. You can look on the back of almost and PC you get from a store and there is a stickers saying "genuine XP" yatta yatta yatta, there is a long code, it will work once. Believe me, I had to do that about, 7 times already from other PCs in my house!
