These are my computer specs and I would like to buy parts from newegg.com and see what I need to play Dark Messiah or Doom 3 on it.

if you like to play games. buy nvidia cards.
7950 gtx. very expensive.
buy nvidias by evga or asus. evga is better and from my experience
excelent support and return policy.
your processor does not matter as long as it's at least e6300.
most graphics is done buy video card not processor.

so for gaming athlons perform about the same as new conroes.
I mean you can buy athlon x2 3800 (overclock it) and it will perform
like e6300 on games. athlon uses hypertransport rather than FSB so
higher memory bandwith --> better for games.

latest nvidias are way better than ati. ati used to be good with their
radeon 9700/9800 era cards. but now they are seriously behind nvidia.
go to nvidia and see memory bandwidth, pipelines and other parameter of each card. I bought nvidia 7800gt for 140$ from new egg.
 
if I was a hardcore gamer, I would get Nvidia, it's best for that. What;s your budget?
 
My buget would be about 100-$250 >< and I was looking on newegg and they said there is different kind of vid cards and I wasn't sure if my computer had that there is something that says PCI Express x16, AGP 4X/8X and Express x16. I have a hp pavillion a1640n what does this mean: For expansion, this desktop has three PCI slots (two available), one PCI Express slot (available). Expansion!? does that mean anything?

2gigs of DDR2 ram at what speed? Also, the intel GMA is an integrated card, so you can't move it from computer to computer, it's a part of the motherboard itself.

No you would not want to get the 7950GX2 (no such thing as the 7950gtx), the 8800GTS/X are both better than the 7950GX2 and supports DX10. And Athlons do not perform about the same as conroes for gaming, the core2duo line will smoke the athlon 64's in almost anything.

It means you can get a PCI-express graphics card. For $250, I would wait for a month or two and get the 8600ultra.

lagging is the least compared to other tasks.

I hope I didn't insult any "serious" 16 year old gamers, with this conduct.
