Which setup?

1)2.5ghz, 250bus x 10, 1000 HT
2)2.6ghz, 260bus x 10, 780 HT

what does the hyper transport (same as FSB) do? is 780 too low? and is 1040 too high? please answer each of these questions directly

what is your ram? your HT should go only as low as your ram speed. you can go lower, but it will be the sweet spot if your HT is there. so id go with the second choice

The Hypertransport link speed has no impact on system performance. 780 is not too low. In general you're best to keep in under 1000, but 1040 isn't really pushing it at all.

Of your two configurations, number 2 is the better (although your memory divider is another important consideration). Take a look at http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Guides/athlon64oc/2.html for an exploration as to the effect of adjusting the Hypertransport link speed.
