1GB or 2 512MB

I have a Compaq Presario SR 1923wm comp. I play lots of games on it, mostly online. It has 1 512 184-Pin DDR SDRAM 400(3200) memory. Sometimes it freezes or skips while playing. I want to upgrade to 1 G, thinking of Kingston Hyper X, would it be better to go with 1 GB or 2 512MB, or would ther be any difference? I know with 1 GB I would then have the option to upgrade to 2GB.
Thanks

Does it support dual-channel? If it does I would go with another 512MB stick so you can keep your current one and have dual-channel enabled.

And most likely you would upgrade the rest of your computer before needing 2GB of RAM.

Just get 1 512MB stick to add. It isn't worth spending too much on that computer.

Another question: What graphics card do you have?

How is that on the topic of this thread? :)

Just because they put that down doesn't mean that they are that age. Consider ADE, who is "99" :P :P

I don't trust the ages much, unless they are within reasonable margin.

There are lots of older men and women that like computers. I mean, probably the majority of people that design computer hardware and software are 30+.

Lol its funny how the thread started as a simple memory question and somehow evolved into discussing people's age.

At my house everyone, my teenage son, my wife and I play video games. The three of us have five comps, so we use them a lots. There are differences in the type of games we play, and we use them for lots of other things, so I would like to upgrade at least 3 of them from 512MB to 1GB. But NewEgg is out of the Kingston HyperX 1GB(2 x 512MB). What other, at a reasonable price would some of you recommend, one that works ok.
Thanks

Old but not dead(YET)

I would recommend any Cosair equivalent and as far as 1gb or 2 512mb I would go with 2 512mb unless you plan on upgrading to 2 gigabytes anytime soon, it will utilize hypertransport/hyperthreading and dual channel memory. Otherwise get 1gb and wait to upgrade.

well for the additional price the xms series is probably not worth it for you, I would find the memory you meant to get and compare it to the value select corsair and find a match...

What other components are in the systems?

If they are Athlon XP's and low-end video cards, I would go with a value set of RAM. There would be no reason to spend alot more and buy performance RAM.
