File duplication...

hi all, I have an issue with file duplication... On my laptop my "My Documents" folder has been duplicated under the name "Bluegeorge's Documents", as indicated in the attached screenshot.

This duplication is taking up valuable space on the hard drive and I would like to remove it. I started deleting the sub-folders in the duplicated section but noticed that as I deleted one, the original was also deleted.

I tried to move the duplicate folders to the originals but encountered an error as the folders shared the same name. I tried to rename the duplicates but any action taken on the duplicates appeared in the originals and vice-versa...

I'm unsure as to why this is taking place, all I know is that I could really use the 10+Gb it is tying up.

I know I'm crap at conveying information in a clear and concise manner, sorry if this is confusing...

are you sure you didn't make the mistake of moving or copying something within C: drive to make it like this..really weird though

No I'm not sure, my wife uses the system... She produces a newsletter on it so most of her copy/paste is web-to-word or email-to-word. She said the other day that she had run out of HDD space, most of which is used up by photo's(backed up regularly of course). I started looking and found this duplicate of "My Documents"... It has me completely baffled.

Are you the user, Bluegeorge? If so, it is not a duplicate. It's there because MS designed it that way. As far as space, you can probably use CCleaner to clean up, probably hundreds, even gigs of space if you never done any maintenance before.

Thanks, just figured it all out. Use CCleaner regularly but don't keep tabs on her system in depth... She had made 2 back-ups with Acronis and they were stored on her system, she thought she had sent them to mine but they were infact stored as compressed files on her HDD. As computers are NOT my strong point, it took much digging and a serious amount of luck to figure it out.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply...
