right.. well.. Im building a pc atm for a classmate who just started living on his own. this (consequentionally) means he doesnt have a very big budget for his pc. (Im paying half of it myself even :o )

either way.. this is what i got so far:

Case (doesnt really matter.. but about 30 euro)
1Gb Corsair Value select DDR2 RAM 667MHz (2x 512Mb) (already had it)
Asus M2V K8T890 motherboard 62.88 euro
3000+ Sempron 55.38 euro
250Gb HDD (WD) 81.80 euro
samsung dvd writer and drive 50 euro (together)
Asus 7300GS 49,94 euro
Coolermaster 430Watt PSU 40 euro (I get this one for my brother too already,.. so why change it? ^^ )
17" Philips 170S7FS 178,95 euro
keyboard + mouse 17,32 euro.

total : 635,21 euro.

now.. my question.. are there any components in that pc that really shouldnt be there? (like, much better performance for a lower price.)

feel free to compare the components on newegg, if you find better parts cheaper.. I can search on the dutch sites for them. :)

well.. I suppose he could get a smaller one,.. but he doesnt really keep the pc clean (not deleting old data etc) so i gues the 250Gb one is better for him ^^

but then.. what other part would you upgrade, if you save like 20 euro on a hdd? over here at least, the 250Gb ones are the best buy. (bang for the buck, or how's it called?) and, he's intending on saving movies etc (recorded ona camcorder) and like said, he doesnt remove old files ^^

the motherboard is the backbone of your system, however there are maybe cheaper solutions that are still good and not asus. i for one, typically only use asus boards, with a few exceptions.

My suggestions maybe:

1) Buy a Motherboard + CPU combo. you can save a lot of money that way

2) Scrap together any used parts from friends, coworkers, whatever. A lot of times people will have a spare part they do not need. I have had like 5 sound cards sitting in my closet along with a few optical drives for like 3 years now. I also have like 6 or 7 30gig HDs lying around.

3) Does he want to game, you can get a cheaper graphics card

What is the exchange rate of a euro over to USD?

well.. He wants to be able to game occasionally, so they actually just have to run reasonably. as for the other things,. i looked for bundles, but no good ones for sale here atm. and scrambling old items, its an idea, Ill see what i can do, but i dont think we have ,uch lying around here. good tips tough.. didnt think of those myself
