I have finally finished building my computer after many weeks of straining to get the right parts and put the puzzle together. Here is my system:

Windows Vista Premium
GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3
XFX PVT71PUQF3 GeForce 7900GS
Core 2 Duo E6300
Arctic Silver 5
Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 3.0Gb/s HD
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB
XClio 450BL ATX 450W PSU

btw: ive feel in love with vista.:)
 
Hey man that is comparable to the new one I am starting this Spring. The
DS3 and the Core 2 Duo was a really good choice. Does Vista cause any problems with your gaming?

Thanx. its a good choose. But...If you are planing on getting a SATA HDD. I was trying to install XP pro for over a week so finally i got so pissed i just bought vista. lolz.
I really haven't tried gaming out yet but i would imagine its fine. I am downloading DOD:S and CS right now and ill reply in half an hour and tell you how everything goes. :)
 
I already have a SATA HD and I had no problems putting XP on my system (shown below). I'm serious, not one single glitch. I think I know where you went wrong at. Be4 you installed XP, you went into BIOS and changed your HD from "Configure SATA as ....IDE" to "Configure SATA 1.....SATA 2......". I think that's what might've screwed you over with that. Has Vista conflicted with anything you use yet? I wanna know if MS Office 2003 will work with it?

I have no idea what i did but it drove me crazy.
Vista seems to be very pick about geforce video card. i have had my computer restart about 10 times now for no reason. Its really annoying. I just updated my Windows and im downloading the nvidia Vista drivers and i think that should do it. Oh and another thing you should know about Vista is that when your installing it don't expect it to be fast. I had to keep my comp on for around 5 hours for it to finish the "Completing Installation..." process....you would think Microsoft would perfect that.:( oh well it was not a big deal at all tho. Im pretty sure Office will work fine on it. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't. Another REALLY annoying thing about vista is that on every exe, zip, ect it asks "Windows needs your permission to run this program." i think it suppose to be for security but its really irritating. Im sure theres away to turn it off but im new to Vista...Wow ive typed alot..lol im sooo bored.
 
Hi staplerz, in general how do you like your MOBO? as i'm currently trying to plan a computer which i aim to build in about 2-3 weeks time. Like you i am also planning on getting an e6300 to start off with but maybe a couple of years down the line if i do get the same MOBO as you, it will nice to be able to upgrade to a quad core cpu.
 
XP did that on my PC, I was sitting here wondering how long does 100% have to display. I think I am gonna stick with XP, I am a big time BF2 buff, I just need a new system that will run that on High settings. Check out my future build:

unlike everyone else, i have to buy piece by piece bcuz if i did manage to save all that money, somewhere in the middle i would waste it on something. thats the only reason i bought the pentium d, its unit price was cheap. but if i went to the mall or something and saw a cool little gadget knowing i had 250$ saved for a core 2 duo, i would have probabley spent it. so iv been buying piece by piece since october. only RAM and GPU left until its operational. but like 3 more unnessesary wanted parts like my DVD burner, second HDD, sound card, and a million new perhiperal to replace my Dell ones. like a shiny new 19" monitor instead of a 15" piece of crap.
 
I have vista ultimate and I get some problems with games but not with most of them. For example I run Fifa07 and PES 6 perfectly however GTR 2 does not run.
 
OMG.....GTR2 Doesn't run on Vista, ooh there will have to be a patch made for that, I can see a lot of p'd off Microsoft customers. I was planning on sticking with XP but Vista sounds better, and plus I show off my computer a lot so I need a sweet desktop. But Vista won't cause my games to lag or anything will it?

Well personally i hate it because it gave me so much trouble trying to install the SATA drivers during the XP install b but i think that was only a one time thing...Other than that its a very nice board. another thing that i didnt really like was that it does not have two ide slots. so i cant have more than 2 cd drives..It really up to you tho.

I love vista sooo much its so clean and well layed out.
I dont think it will but if your going to get Vista get another gb of ram because the lowest requirements for the premier is 1 gb and i am running 2 gb and its running so fast and smooth on highest settings.

get the video card driver updates for vista. it fixed alot of my game problems.

your build looks really nice. i wish i had the money to get a 8800 for my pc.:(

lolz. i saved up for my pc and i wasted all my money on crap i dont even need. i bought like a $10 usb fan. lol I have my pc but no monitor.:( i using a 17 crt right now.
 
I'm waiting for vista....8800 series don't have official drivers for vista, and the beta sux and you will get constant crashes, blue screens, etc.

i get alot of crashes with the beta drivers. does anyone know where approximately the full drivers will be available?
