ok i had some viruses and i ran scans with pratically every anti-virus and anti-spyware there is but i still run slow with simple tasks like web-browsing and word publications. can someone help?? also i have only 256mb of ram and im not sure if thats the problem. also here is a hijackthis log.

You have a few things to fix but most likely the 256mb of ram installed is the main reason since the programs/games you have installed soak that right up. A good 1gb of memory and using the msconfig utility to reduce the amount of startup items would help see things run smoother.

The five items here should be fixed by HT.

Just get more RAM. that's the problem. 1GB is good. When you run out of RAM the computer uses the Hard drive like one, which is very much slower, because of not being nearly as fast as RAM in reading and writing, and it has to physically write it down and erase it. Like writing and erasing with a pencil is much slower than typing and pressing backspace. Hard drive is like pencil, and RAM is like typing. not enough RAM means more for the hard drive to do. Kinda get what i mean?
 
its a start. how many available slots do you have? if you have 3 or more then try adding the 512MB and if is not as good as it should be, then add another 512 when you can. If you can go in steps then i recommend that. if not and you only have 2 slots, get a 512 and if its not enough replace the 256 with another 512.
 
That model has two dimm slots for ether PC2100 or PC1600 memory. You have the option of seeing two 512s go in to reach the max and support some newer programs. But you have to remember you are running an older HP model there with a 266mhz total fsb. Eventually you will want a new updated system to see things actually running faster.
 
Getting the most out of the memory is about all you can do with the older system there. You won't see so much of a performance gain. But you would see far more support memory wise for newer larger games.
 
A registry cleaner won't find trojans or trojan downloaders that can pose as normal system files. The idea of using a cleaner is to remove invalid entries that are left behind when uninstallers don't completely remove all entries and things like drivers for a no longer used program load or entries made from a failed attempt to install something. Orphans in the system registry are a common cause for seeing a system slowdown over a period of time. With only 256mb ram and running newer and larger apps and games is another even more obvious one.
