Changing to Vista, my files?

Firstly, Im almost done downloading Windows Vista Ultimate and im planning to burn it onto a 4.7G dvd (if this isnt possible tell me plz) so I can boot my computer from it. The thing is, I dont know if all my files will still be there when I transfer from XP to Vista. Also when you boot from disc, does that make it your default OS and "delete" XP?

Downloading Windows Vista is illegal and a criminal offense.

well put your files on one partition like D: and Vista will e installed on c: .everything in Drive C: will be deleted. you need 15 GB free space for Vista.

Not if you download it from MSDN.

To Immortal.Hacker: If you run the Vista disc from inside XP, it will give you the option to upgrade. If you boot the disc, it won't allow you to upgrade. You're files should all still be available if you upgrade XP to Vista.

But remember, if you did download it illegally, you wont have a CD key and you wont be able to activate it

You know you can BUY vista ONLINE and DOWNLOAD it... he most likely bought it completely legally and is getting it from download.com or another site. Jeez, people, it is legal.

well you don't know that but i think you can do it and if you are just using it for 1 pc and your using xp then you can just install it from windows
