correct me if im wrong but... i really want to put a dvd on my HDD and i dont know how can someone help me?? oh and IDK is this illegal?? can you do this with a program or an operation using windows...
I thought that if you own the the dvd and back it up so it incase it sratches or breaks it wasn't illegal. If it is legal to do so use dvd shrink to back it up as a .ISO file, but it if is illegal do not do this
I know, it's dumb... Just like recently, I have some old disks I really want to make backups of because they've gotten scratched up over the years. Some the CD material began to flake off so portions of the disks are unaccessible! But to copy the disks you have to break copy protection, which is illegal...
murdock22 - As I mentioned after post, it's not so much the act of copying them but the fact you break the copy protection. But then copying disks is a rather taboo topic to discuss here since we don't know your real intentions
It's only illegal if it isn't for your own personal use. Look at the copyright law, it makes no reference to how you store it, just distributing it and selling it, or otherwise profiting from it.

Breaking the copyright protection is what is illegal. That means you cannot make a copy, even if you own the disc. You can make a copy of a DVD for your own exclusive use only if there is no copy protection on it already.
