My Boss has a problem with his laptop so Dell told him to send back and they will replace it.
They told him to make sure he reformates the hardrive before sending back but for some reason he can't so he wants to know a way he can erase the drive before sending back.
I have a strong magnet but it's very small.
Anyone have any idea?
I read through search but didn't see any info I could use.

Thanks

John

only way to do it then is to take it out and fit it in another machine and fdisk all the partitions create a pri partion of ntfs and then format it and then it will be blank otherwise best bet is take it out and smash it up no other way and magnet to it will just damage it wont just blank it will make it no usuable again but be in tack. i would ring them and say wha options do i have without turning it on as there is only them to i have given as i can see

?

magnet to it will just damage it wont just blank it will make it no usuable again but be in tack.
WHAT? Not sure what that means. A magnet will make it blank? But be in tack? Sorry bro, not sure what you mean.

Let's forget about formating because it..
Let's just forget about doing anything with it inside the computer as far as programing or anything with having to turn the computer on.

So your saying that other than smashing it, melting it with fire, or pouring acid on it, there is no way to erase it while still having it in one piece?

What about putting it in the path of an electro magnetic shock wave such as one created by a nuclear blast?

BUT seriously, no way to keep in one piece while erasing it. I don't care if it can't ever be used again, It just has to be erased and I would like it to be in one piece otherwise I would just burn it.

Thanks
