Recently replace one of my defected 1GB PC2-3200 with a 1GB PC2-4200 in DIMM2.

This is how my BIOS look like.

Memory size: 2.50 GB
Memory speed: 400 MHz
Memory channel mode: Dual Interleaved
Memory type: DDR2 SDRAM

DIMM1: 1 GB
DIMM3: 256 MB
DIMM2: 512 MB
DIMM4: 256 MB

BIOS only detect 512MB of ram in DIMM2, but my total ram showed is 2.5GB.
How is that possible?

Are you sure the RAM's 100% compatable with the board? I've had sticks that did some very odd stuff... Sometimes showing different amounts during post, lots of errors, etc etc. Maybe you could check the manufacturer's website for a list of compatible RAM for your board and see if the module's listed?
