best Linux

I am thinking of putting Linux onto my computer instead of Windows XP. Can anyone help me decide which one to put in.

I've heard that Ubuntu is the most popular one, and for a good reason. I haven't been able to get it on my computer though. Everytime I boot from a disk, I can get past the loading "Ubuntu" sign but then no farther.

I've used Fedora before and it was pretty nice. Also heard good things about openSUSE.

I really like ubuntu. Download the iso to a cd and run the CD from boot. You can try it without doing anything to your HD. OpenSuse also has a live cd i think.

I've used suse with KDE, and i think i like ubuntu with gnome better.

Probably a bad burn. The file has to completely download without any interuption at all to get a good burn, or at least this is the problem i had. Try to burn it again or order the free CD's.

Yeah. I've tried a few burned CD's and one from a magazine. I might just order the CD's. I mean, they are free, might as well.

no such thing as best linux all the distros have their faults and none of them are perfect. I run knoppix based ones, suse both enterprise and open source, kubuntu, and sometimes I run debian (which is what ubuntu is based off of)
