ok so i just reformatted my computer and reinstalled windows xp. the comp starts up fine and loads right off to the desktop since there is only 1 user on the comp. after installing some stuff like .net framework 2.0 and some ati catylst utilities, i restart and i get the user logon window. wtf?? so i checked the user preferences and i changed the way users log on and off.

so i unclicked 'use the welcome screen'
but when i do that, i get like a different format like windows 2000. like when i press ctrl alt del, i dont automatically get the task manager, i actually get a window full of options with shutdown etc etc. im pretty sure u guys know wat im talking about. then when i restart, i still get a logon screen, its not the multiuser logon, but like a personal user logon. how can i fix this so that the computer automatically starts up to the desktop again? i dont wanna reformat... this is my 2nd time. URGENT HELP NEEDED! thank u.

I hate that too. I made a thread on this a while back, they told me to do what you did, I know it wont work. No one knows...well, back then anyway. Good luck dude. Hope you find out, I never did. I'd like to know also...

U'll have to unistall framework i'm afraid...

yea.. no that doesnt work.

ok i think i might have found a solution ADE, and im trying it out right now.
this is wat i found on the microsoft website:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827072/en-us

probable solution that im trying:
depending if u have .net framework 1.1 or 2.0, get the latest service pack for it.

so as kornowski said, get all the updates.

ill report back after i try this.

Yeah, you just have to have them all, I think it's SP2 that fixes it :)

hmm well it says sp1 and that didnt fix it, so i was still very very mad. LOl.
so i was like wat the hell..... and it said on the support page that "ocal user account that is named ASPNET is created"

so i went to the users and saw that account and deleted it, and now i can load directly onto desktop. although..... im not sure if that account is important or not.... soo...

do u think u can direct me to sp2 for .net framework with a link please?
