HIS Radeon X1600 Pro IceQ

okay, i turned the core and memory numbers down by 10 each. not sure exactly what that means but it will play a game now. i think that is some bs, why do i have to underclock my card to make it work?

Who said you were underclocking? The card may not have the same voltage requirement as seen with the models recommended for that make and model board. If you oced at all you have left the voltage up a little?

Yay! i finally helped someone! :) It is kinda bunk that you have to underclock it to use it.. but 10 mhz isn't that much so you're not losing any performance.

i dont understand this. can you explain some more? i ended up with a core of 459.00 mhz and mem of 319.50 to make it run stable. the default setting for the card were core 500 and mem 400 mhz.

oh, and the big huge fan on this card is supposed to glow blue. it doesnt. but the fan does spin!

thanks hermeslyre, at least its working now!

Many cards run default at the 1.6v or higher while others run at the typical 1.5v default setting in the bios. To compensate you either would have had to raise that up from 1.5v or back down the timings on the card to match the defaults on the board. Thiis is why many newer cards have the extra power plug to meet the demand they place on system resources.

so you saying if i raised the voltage doing to the card, it might run at the default settings. i wouldnt know where to begin but id like to learn.

im having to lower the clock more on this board. it just does to much weird stuff. even while not gaming sometimes the screen just randomly goes white or black. im calling tiger this evening. ive never had to do this with a vid card before and HIS wont email me back.

I would try and return it if you can. Theres no reason you should be having this much trouble, and definitely no reason why you should have to downclock it.

They usually have a better return policy then some vendors like ZipZoomFly not mentioning names there. Either the card has a defect or it is simply incompatible? It points more at defect.

im currently on hold with them. im gonna try to get them to exchange for a different card. what do you think of this one?

ATI Radeon X1650 Pro / 512MB GDDR2 / AGP 8x / DVI / VGA / HDTV / Video Card

Generally that's a good not too high end AGP card. But the favored for gaming at least is the Radeon X850 model by many. I was looking for a better card at pc fair lately for the PCI-E board here and saw only an ENS 8800. ouch! I bought a new sata drive and Vista instead.

im seeing $450 for the x850. thats a little out of my price range! im still having trouble getting ahold of anyone about this HIS card.

well, after three phone calls to HIS i finally got them to send the RMA paperwork to me. i filled it out and emailed it back. now i just have to wait i geuss.

You will probably end up with a replacement if they don't simply refurbish the card. Too bad you couldn't have seen an exchange for a better make and model. Hopefully the replacement(hope it is too) will turn out to be a good card so you don't have to rma that one too!

well, there gonna have to do something. i just came down on orders for iraq and if they give me a new card its just gonna sit here at the house for the next year. if its defective i wont know and it will be out of warrenty by the time i get back.

The first thing that will be on your mind when getting back won't be the card for sure. Hopefully that it be a good replacement they send out to lessen the burden a little. Of course by then you may be considering a new build for the newer hardwares seen then. I still have a few old cards lying around here that haven't been tossed yet. Just do a good job and get back to see how things go with it.
