McAfee is JUNK, Yes JUNK

Okay listen to this, I bought a Dell 2yrs ago and it is running an older McAfee and it is not exactly up to date. I have my new, built one, I put Internet Security 2007 on it and configured it and set everything up, same on old one.
I networked the PC's together and the firewall on the old one resisted this and the firewall on the new one didn't it came straight through it and let the other PC right into my files:eek:. I WILL NEVER BUY MCAFEE AGAIN! Why did the newer allow and older one didn't:confused:? I would rather have something that was more manual that automatic, I can set what I want. UGGH. Idiot-proof software blows!!

So you finally figured that one out?! That's about the most lame foobar excuse for a software there. If you wanted to test firewalls get something that actually gets results. Something like Sygates or Comodo and some others leave McAfee somewhere in the distant past!

use AVG Free Edition. I just upgraded to Full Edition for 2 years and it works great...........
If u look around, nobody get happy results from antivirus from Norton, McAffe or panda.

Testify! So is Norton Antivirus/internet security.

A lot of people don't like Trend Micro (pccillin) but I found it to be pretty good, especially for a commercial package.

You just figured out that McAffee is crap? im pretty sure most of the computer- knowledgeable world knows that it and Norton SUCK.

When the 30day trial shareware version was run here it surpassed AVG and AdAware combined. But I still wanted AVG on and will be beta testing the new AdAware 2007 soon to be seen. AdAware, AVG, and Spyware Terminator have been an effective combination seen lately. The last has it's own built in personal firewall.

I used to have Trend Micro Pccilling - hated it.
The only reason for this was if you forget your password there is no way to get round it and you can't uninstall it without the password.
And then of course there are the endless e-mails that keep coming after you stop using it, with the private offers etc.
Personally I havent found anything wrong with McCafee the updates are good it deletes virusses that other ones won't so far it is the best I have come across.
Although my anti-virus experience comes down to about 4 different ones:
Norton
AVG
McCafee
Trend Micro PCcillin

I found it a very effective tool for what it was. Like any retail software you get offers once registared for newer versions and the like. I still get those for Roxio and Cyberlink. Let's see McAfee I tossed, AVG is back on to stay, a good review on PC-cillin, and not so good on Avast when tried, with Norton being a resource hog in most cases.

Really I always though mcafee was pretty good. I've never had a problem with it, but I only use the Virus software and it's the enterprise edition.

You simply have been ffortunate enough not to have been causght off guard by some bug floating around quite yet. But that can always change in a moment's notice. And when you do...   !!!

I use Panda and i must say it kicks ass. It has an ok amount of settings, you get a panda icon in your tool bar which is very cool, and i havent gotten a single virus while using it.

Lately I have also heard complaints as well as recommendations on Panda. But then can also be said about any of them. It just happens that McAfee and Norton win the loser awards constantly.

I see what you mean but I still don't think it was as user friendly as others, although saying that, it may have been more effective than others... after all it was voted Australia's number 1 anti-virus software a couple of years ago!

For a retail product I can see where it's a great one to go with. But for any serious gaming rig the freebies like AVG 7.5 seem to work out far better. They don't grab resources and generally stay in the background when not running a full scan. One reason for AVG is seeing it come to life even when totally disabled in the msconfig from starting up with Windows to alert on a trojan. The code in the "bug" triggered AVG there.

yes mcaffee sux. i'm about to remove it and install avg. i have avg on my other 2 puters. just not my one at work, but im about to!

i HATE panda. it almost destroyed my computer and i had to wipe it. but now i have avg 7.5 professional

I did not like Norton but i have Macafee and i like it, i have never had any problems with it, besides the site navigator blocking firefox, but that was a quick fix. I like it and will stick with it for years to come.

Years to come? Don't count on it. It may be only days to come. You never know with McAfee. One big lesson is never to count on "any" one program to "do it all"! That would be a tragic mistake being under a false assumption when something does slip right by and...   !!! It can't be!

Why do you think other programs like AVG, Ad-Aware, AntiVir, and others have regular updates. There's new "bugs" floating around every so often that can get ya good! PC--cillin found things missed by AVG. Spyware Terminator found things missed by Ad-Aware.
