Today I noticed that my DVD burner & second hard drive was not listed when I clicked on my computer. So i rebooted & when it was booting back up I got these messages on the screen.
diskette drive 0 seek failure.(if this is a floppy drive I don't even have one)
then I hit enter & got these.
Primary drive 1 not found.(dvd drive? it is set to boot from this first)
Secondary drive 0 not found
Secondary drive 1 not found
Strike f1 key to continue,f2 to run the setup utility.
When I hit f1 it boots to windows(although it seems slow)& seems to run normal. Where did everything go?
Here's what I have tried so far.I have unplugged & replugged the data/ribbon cable to ensure good connection.I swaped the power chain plug in on the primary hard drive with the dvd drive. This tells me the power supply is good? Also I forgot to add, with everything hooked up you cannot open the cd drive with the eject button nor do the lights light up when you reboot.P.S. the cd/dvd drive is only about 1 month old.

Sounds like a Bad Cd Rom drive or bad IDE port/cable. Have you tried the ROM on a different port or PC all together. Also for the HD, make sure you set the jumpers to secondary. I dont know how many times I forgot to set jumpers properly

HD jumpers are set ok.they have been working good until the other day.I kinda suspect the ribbon cable since both drives that are not showing up are on the same cable.

Yeah I would check the cables, but do you have the HD and Rom in the IDE port? You can try to seperate them and see what the deal is. I had a very similar issue a few years back, it turned out that the IDE port on my mobo crapped out.

I'm not sure of what am IDE port is but I swapped where the ribbon cables plug into the mobo & it made no diff.

you know the port where you plug the ribbon cable into on the motherboard that is the ide port try placing them on another port if you have two

OK here's what I've done so far.I was near a computer store today & grabbed a data cable(couple of bucks was all) Replaced the old cable with the new one(same results, data cable ruled out correct?)
The cd drive & 2nd hard drive are on one cable & the oem drive is on another cable.I swapped them on the ide ports on the mobo.(cd was then plugged into where the oem drive was)oem drive boots up when plugged into either port (this tells me the ports on the mobo are good correct?)
Took each plug in from the power chain & one at a time plugged them into oem drive & each time the oem drive booted up fine. (this tells me power supply is good correct?) Could both drives have gone belly up at the same time?
