A new pc.....

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get a new pc to be used for mostly gaming. I don't know alot about computers and I thought I would come here before I buy a pc and it turns out to be terrible. I would really appreciate it if anyone here could reccomend me a pc with the following specs. Thanks for your time!

~Price range: $800- $900

~Windows Vista Home Premium

~Intel Core 2 Duo

~Geforce 7500 or higher

~No monitor required

Again, thanks to everyone who posts.

P.S.: I found this pc online. It runs two Geforce 7300. Is this better than one Geforce 8800? I was looking at one earlier.

I'm no good at picking out pc components so i'll leave that to another member.. but may i suggest waiting a couple weeks for the 8600 ultra? It will support dx10 and will be more powerful (arguably) than a 7900 gt.. and the best part is that it will be around $180 bucks. Another route would be the 8600 gt which is $30 cheaper with the expected performance loss. :D

edit: two 7300's don't even come close to a 8800. nope. doesn't. Not ina million years.

Thanks for the tip. I was also looking at this one:

I know that its graphically a beast but, is it worth the money? Thanks

oh yeah.. The gts is a great card.. It uses up alot of your budget though. It wouldn't be a great idea to have a super gfx card and a crap psu, cpu, mobo, ram etc. Give the build alittle time.. wait for the core 2 duo price drop the and the new dx10 cards..

DS3 or similar mobo
8xxx gfx
ddr2 633-800mhz ram
e6xxx Cpu
capable PSU
etc

Like i said no good at pickin out components but your system should look similar to this. Just be patient... :)

I'm not even sure you could get an 8800GTS and a C2D into a $900 budget. You also don't want to crap out on the PSU, cuase if that goes, it can take your very expensive graphics card with it.

Why? Is a new product coming out or something? Links? Again, thanks to everyone who posts.

It's all been explained.

In addition to the graphics cards, Intel will soon be releasing the E6x20's, which have twice the L2 cache as their non-20 bretherin. They will also cost the same amount as their 2mb-counterparts. Here's a chart for how Intel will cut prices: http://techreport.com/ja.zz?id=157090

Unfortunatly, after a little more research, it appears the Intel price cuts and the 8600 Ultra are still making their way through the rumor mill and there haven't been any official announcements other than one website saying they heard it from another. Hopefully, these are both true. Or it could cost me more money than I hoped to spend. :(

It's not really a rumor...the rumor originated from leaked Intel documents, then if I'm not mistaken Intel confirmed that they were indeed cutting prices and introducing new processors on April 22, 2007 (Q2 '07). Even if Intel hasn't confirmed it, there's not really much doubt as to whether or not they'll cut prices, it's almost 100% certain that it's true.

Well thats good. Also, I was wondering, is two 7300's run better than one 7950? And if I get a 7950, will I need a hefty PSU? Thanks

Not quite sure about your question, but in a few more weeks (before Intel releases the new C2D's and cuts prices) Nvidia will be releasing the 8600 ulltra...it will be DX10 (just like the 8800GTS and 8800GTX) and an excellent card, and will only cost around $180.
