Gee? I see you are getting the same model supply I presently have sitting in a closet still wrapped in the original plastic wrap. I keep forgetting to swap out the TP II 480w model in use now.

You will have to excuse me for going with a WD 500gb sata drive. G.Skill? I found Kingston being the recommended memory when visiting the Gigabyte site more then once. Corsair, Crucial, and OCZ are alternatives.

If you can wait a month or so, Intel will be refreshing the Core 2 Duo lineup, and also dropping prices on existing processors, and added a couple new processors. The E6x20's will have 4mb of L2 Cache, and the higher models that already have 4mb of L2 cache, the E6x50's, their newer counterparts, will have a higher FSB. And most importantly, prices are going to drop. New graphics cards are also going to be released, while current card prices are going to drop. Now isn't generally a good time to buy, considering prices are going to be dropping as much as 40% in the second quarter (April or so).

A link for the vendor you are going through could also be a help in advising further. You could then keep an eye out for any price reductions like computermaineack is describing here. The 7900GT does look a high on price. I realize you are in a different market there. But a second look never hurts and could save you some money overall.

As for Vista I might Suggest a diffrent motherboard. Currently Vista's audio will not work on any Gigabyte board I have tried (and most have been brand new) Gigabyte do Not have any good drivers as of yet to fix this, though I am sure its not far off. What the OS dose now, It reads the cards the audio device fine however it try to play it through the opitcal port. I don't think this problem happens if you use a seperate sound card but I am not sure.

So I suggest that you choose a diffrent motherboard or get a sound card or use Xp

If the drivers wont work for audio, than buy a 30 dollar sound card, it will sound better as well.

well heres my situation. i dont have a desktop at the moment so im using my moms laptop which she doesnt want me to because its for work. should i wait or get my new computer. ive had my desktop since 2002 and it died on us about 1 week ago.

one more question. when the c2d processors come out will it affect the price of current c2d processors that much? maybe 100 dollar difference?

There are a few things you could do here. You could invest a little bit more money into getting your old desktop to work again,as a temporary computer until you get a new one in April. You could continue to use your mom's work computer. You could just build a full computer now.

When Intel rolls out the new CPU's, they will cut prices on existing processors. The E6300 and E6320 will cost the same, the only difference being that the E6320 will have 4mb of L2 cache. The E6420 and the E6400 will cost the same, again the same difference of the cache. The E6650 and the E6600 will cost the same, have the same amount of L2 cache (4mb), but the E6650 will have a higher FSB. Prices will be cut a fairly significant amount..up to 40% for the higher end processors (the Core 2 Extreme and Core 2 Quad), while the others will see fairly big price cuts as well, about $40 for the E6300 and E6400, and about $90 for the E6600. The E6700 and Q6600 will get cut about $215. These prices are in American dollars.

what will the higher fsb do for me as a computer user and average gamer. because if they will end up costing the same then i might as well go ahead and buy the new computer.

There will be higher bandwith for things like memory...the biggest thing with the E6650/E6600 will be that the prices will be cut. But for the E6420, there will be big improvements because of the increased L2 cache.

so prices for the e6600 and the e6650 will be about the same? maybe $100 difference?

thanks for your help computermaineack. just got one more question.

should i get vista. im worried some programs and some games wont run on vista. should i get xp pro then update to vista when the first service pack comes out or should i get vista now?

The prices for the E6600 and E6650 will be exactly the same...just like the E6320 and E6300 will cost the same, etc.

Most things should work in Vista...you can always get Vista, try it out for a few weeks, and if you find that things to work in it, than you can just switch back to XP. I'm using Vista on my mom's new laptop, and so far I haven't found anything that doesn't work. Then again, I haven't installed games or anything.

ok thanks soo much for your help man. can you just check if all of this is compatible.
