Music files - virus

Is it possible for a music/video file to contain a virus? (Does not include those disgusied as these files)

I've heard of this happening... if it can happen with .jpeg images, a media file can do it too. One more reason to scan every single file that comes into one's PC with an up-to-date virus scanner.

It's been done. Put "jpeg virus" in Google and see almost 2 million hits come up. It's called "W32/Perrun"

it's quite easy, if you're not careful

since xp hides file extensions for known filetypes, people disguise viruses by naming them coolpicture.jpg.exe, and of course the .exe is hidden

Theoretically, you can embed a virus in a wide range of extensions.

wide range? why not say nearly everything. viruses can be really small and can fit like anywhere depending on its complexity. of course there are also really long viruses, that are really complex, but i dont think you need to worry about getting one of those in a music download or whatever your doing.

Definitely. Don't download any suspicions looking files. If a downloaded file displays popups when you open it, delete it and run an anti virus program right away.

How can they put virus into image file ???

I Guess:may be winrar could do it ,compress 1 media file and 1 virus file into 1 document.
