Computer vs PS3 vs Xbox360

I was just wondering why so many people spend so much money on gaming computers? Is it any better than playing a PS3 on a 70" samsung DLP HIDEF TV? I would not want to pour 2 or 3 g's into a computer and play on a 19" screen...just my opinion.

A computer can do WAY more than a console. Console's are for mainstream gaming, and PC's are for more than that plus gaming.

i probably would not buy another console again....ever since i started playing games on the pc i havnt gone back on my Ps2.

My pc isnt exactly what you would call a gaming pc:D but still i like it much better than console gaming:)

Computers IMO are much better, and nothing is better than an old fashioned keyboard and mouse :)

PC's can do a hell of a lot more than just play games, so they are good in the way.

PC's are also excellent for gaming, there's a load more 'advanced' games out for PC than console!

But on the other hand some games are better on a console, such as fighting games like DOA and racing games like Toca Race Driver.

I think, they are all good in their own way! :)

I paid 2.5 G's for my whole setup but I play my games on a 37" HD LCD. :D

G's means 1000s. So that would be $2500 :)
they go out of date faster than computers
Computers are practically out of date when you buy them. I still play my PS2 and when PS3s become not stupidly expensive I'll probably buy one of those too, if only for a couple games. I nearly bought a gamecube just for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. I'm more than willing to pay a little for a console and one game. I'll always find another game on the console I like before it's time to get rid of it, and some I don't like.

hum, IMO u get the same effect when playing games on 22 inch monitor at 2 feet away compared to a 70" samsung DLP HIDEF TV at 10+ feet away. i would not want to pour 5 thousand dollars into a TV just to play PS3....just my opinion

u have to understand that u can use that 70inch TV for your main TV for everyday use just as you can use a gaming computer as an everyday computer.

but like stated above, every setup has its advantages.

Doesnt matter. The size does not deturmine the HD pictures, the resolution does. Like in a movie theator, its a huge screen, but is it Hi Definition? most likily not. IMAX yeah, but with a 5 story tall screen, no duh. Like the monitor I use now = hi definition that can beat most HDTV resolution.

The Computer is the BEST platform for games. It has the best graphics provided that you have the latest graphics card. :P I just don't see how strategy and FPS games can be playing with a console gamepad, titles like battle for middle earth should not have appeared as a console title.

Although I agree that consoles have a place in entertainment due to existing infrastructure (i.e., most computer owners already have TVs) and cheaper platform. However for me it's simply quality (that and since I dont have a TV, the added cost of the TV iis taken into effect. My reasons:
  • 0.22 dot pitch versus hmmm 0.35
  • 6144x1536 (spanned 2048x1536) instead of "high def"
  • The boxes are mostly work machines turned gaming rigs rather than the other way around
  • I dont know enough about consoles to say for sure, but last time I checked, you cant really overclock them
  • Before you suggest overclocking isnt needed, try playing NWN2 at max settings.
  • Playing SuCom on two 70" Samsung whatever they ares gets expensive i would imagine ;)

Perhaps but 99% of people dont need a 8-way SMP setup to do type up a report on MS Word after they're finished playing games.

EA should cease to exist but we cant really hope on that anytime soon lol

well computer are amazing expecially when you have a sweet ass gaming comp and a 22in hd widescreen monitor!

Widescreen is a matter of preference and doesnt really impact the objective "sweetness" of the machine (unless the game was specifically designed with widescreen in mind, which, at this time, most arent yet). As for HD, if you're driving a 22" screen, HD should be the norm (and i mean the informal-PC definition of HD, not the TV definition).

no widescreen in your face while playing the game makes it very very enjoyable

also a 10000 inch tv doesnt add "sweetness" to a ps3 or xbox
