Less Ram?

I have been using The computer in the signature for a while now, as my main gaming Pc but i Have never been completely satisfied. (slow downs and lag in places it should run fine) I believe its because I am using 4G of ram when it appears that that amount of ram can actually hinder performance instead of help. So do you guys think that if I took out 2G I may not see some of these problems. The ramm is only generic @ 533 and I can't OC at the moment because of my cooling. so really I am after suggestions to improve my ram situation.

Are all the ram modules the same and being dual channeled? if not that would slow you down as well. what kind of ram is it?. The hypertransport in the cpu you're running is 2000mhz and the speed at which your ram is running is 533mhz. increasing ram speed would make a definate impact on the system. just out of curiousity, what is the latency and timing set at on your ram?

Actually it would, but probably not a very noticeable amount. It's all about the 1T/2T timings, where RAM is slower when there's more than one stick(or two in the case of dual channel)

However, I suspect it's another problem besides RAM. There's no harm in trying with just 2GB, but I think something else is causing your lags.

hmmmm..... I am pretty sure it is a ram issue because I tend to take good care oh my system spyware and virus wise. and all my other hardware components are good.

All four sticks of ram are Identical 4 x 1gb corsair value select PC2-4300 and as far as I can tell according to CPU-Z the ram is in dual channel .

OH and my HT is only at 1150.5MHZ not 2000 why is this? maybe because I oc the core to 2.5?

The timings are 4-4-4-12-15 when ram is at 266MHZ But when trying to fix this problem I OC my ram to 667 so its now at 361MHZ the problem is not as apparent now. is it safe to leave my ram at this frequency when it was rated at 266MHZ (However I did OC my Cpu as well that may have helped)

Have you tried SISandra to see how your ram compares with other similar setups.

wow I had never seen that program before thanks for the pointer, what a great little program I did well against other setups but for some reason it rated my memory at 8187MB shouldn't 4G be about 4000MB

Yeah I sure do but that still a little odd that it suggested it tested over 8000MB

it also says that it isn't dual channel while CPU-Z says that it is?
