Okay, this is what I think I am going to go with, I just need to make sure all of the components are compatible. I already have a power supply and sound card so that’s why those two items aren’t there. I know I could do an Intel for the price but I am pretty set on the 5400+. I need to know if all of this is compatible (including the XP pack) and also if there’s anything I’m missing (except PSU and sound card). Thanks in advance!

A few things..I'm not sure why you want to go with AMD since the Intel Core 2 Duo's currently kick the cr*p out of the Athlon 64's. I also try to shy away from ECS motherboards, they're a budget brand and not really reliable.

You'll need some thermal compound for your CPU cooler, Arctic Silver 5 is the generally accepted best.

Other than that, everything's compatible.
 
The reason I liked that motherboard was the layout of the PCI slots. The 8800GTS takes up two slots and I need both the regular PCI slots (sound card, wireless card). With that motherboard I could use the top PCI-Ex16 slot for the video card and cover the PCI-Ex1 slot that I wont use anyhow and have plenty of clearance for the regular PCI's. What mother board would you suggest instead? Also thanks for the heads up on the thermal paste.
 
Okay, I like that one. This might be a stupid question but if i wanted to hook up 3 DVD drives how would I do that? All of the FDD cables I've seen only accept two disk drives. If I wanted three would I need to get another FDD cable and use a motherboard with two FDD ports like the Asus one you suggested?

Also when you apply that thermal paste you just put a tiny squirt on the CPU and swirl it around and that's it, right? Don't go overboard and don't cover the whole thing?

As far as the thermal paste goes you want just enough to create a thin layer across the whole IHS. Spread it a evenly with a credit card or razor blade. For the three disk drives you would need to hook two up to one ide channel and one to the another ide channel but that is going to limit you to one hard drive. To eliminate that issue I would get a sata drive not an ide as you have listed.

I assume when you say FDD you mean IDE Ribbon cable...FDD means floppy disk drive, and uses a separate connection to the motherboard.

Each IDE ATA 100 channel on the motherboard can handle up to two devices each, thus giving you a total of four IDE drives. However, each SATA channel can only handle one device, however, generally there are more SATA connectors than IDE, as SATA is more replacing IDE as the standard.

I'd suggest this harddrive instead...it's cheaper, got the same amount of storage, and has a SATA II interface.
