AMD X2 vs AMD FX?

Hi, I was wondering... what's the difference between AMD's X2 and FX processor besides the fact that one's dual core and one's not. Can you help me?

( I.E. One is better for gaming, one is better overall, or more detailed info would be great, etc. )

There are alot of dual core FX processors, infact my friend just got an FX-60 which is a 2.6Ghz dual core CPU. If you want to overclock then the dual core FX
series would be much better and allow for flexible overclocking. If you aren't into that, or just want to save money, then the X2 series is a great choice.

Without any overclocking, an X2 5000+ (2.6Ghz) is about on par with the FX-60.

The FX line are basically AMD's enthusiast line. Generally the current FX CPU will be the top end of the aMD range offering the fastest processor but they also come with unlocked multipliers which allows them to be overclocked much better

if u are spending the money on an FX cpu, instead spend it on an E6600 Core 2 Duo. much better cpu, and still good for overclocking

accually AM2 got rid of all FX's and FX is only used for quad cores now. They aint making any more dual core FX's for AM2 but The FX-60, FX-62, and they were gonna make a FX-64 turned into Athlon 64x2 5400+, 5600+ and 6000+.
The C2D E6700 is only slightly faster than A64X2 6000+ and 6000+ is slightly cheaper but w/e

It's not that I hate competition, I hate Intel because they are a bad overclocking architecture alltogether and you can buy a lesser grade AMD and have it run just as well as the newest Intel (but you can't too old of an AMD for that to be true...)

..lol i don't believe you're familar with Intels new line of Dual core chips. They are the Best processors out at this point, they are tremendous overclockers, And on april 22 you can get one for as little as $100.. one word; Ifreakinwantone.

hermeslyre is right. The current range of core 2 duo are massive overclockers. Just google around or look at some of the people on this forum that have them. The e6300 is seeing around 40%+ increase in performance from overclocking. I'm afraid your bias against intel is both unfounded and outdated at the moment :)

Even with Core 2 Duos, they still overheat waaaaaay worse than AMD, and I know, I got three faulty Intels in-a-row... they all basically melted....

Agreed, definetly go with C2D.

OK, That's what I needed to know, and by the way jedijeff... I hate Intel... >_<

Why? They are superior to AMD right now.

The C2D line are great overclockers, The E6300's are hitting incredibly high speeds, well into the 3ghz range. As for a "lesser grade" AMD, I don't think the AMD 64 or the X2 line can even remotely compare to the QX6700.

The FX series has unlocked multiplier, they're designed for OC enthusiasts.

Dude, you have no idea what your talking about.

The Core 2 Duo's run way cooler then AMD's X2 and A64 line. They also overclock much better, people usually can get an E6300 from 1.86Ghz to at least 3-3.2Ghz.
