Hi all,

I've got a laptop:
  • Centrino Duo 1.83ghz 667FSB 2mb L2 Cache
  • 2gb DDR2 RAM
  • 2 x 120gb HD SATA 5400RPM
  • Geforce Go 7900 512MB dedicated
  • Supports RAID 0, 1 and Intel RAID MATRIX HD's

I want to improve it for games, as I still can't run BF2 on all high settings without lag.

What would you suggest I upgrade?

I was thinking a faster processor, but which one? What about the Core Duo 2.2ghz, but will it really make much difference? Would it make much differnce if I got a RAID HD?

Thanks

whats the mobo, and wat company is it? the company depedns alot on casing and spac for upgrading

you laptop looks fine to me. a 7900gs is more than enough for BF2, you have plenty of ram, your cpu is fast enough. does the lag occur during singleplayer or online?

is high settings 1600x1200 with AA on full?

if so you're gonna get lowish framerates i reckon, your laptop seems really good, im not sure if you can wack some more ram in but that might help.

If it's a 15.4", its most likely 1680x1050, but if its the 17", I believe its 1920x1280 or something. If you're trying to play games at the 1920x1280 resolution, its not going to run very well, especially if you have the settings on high.

Anyways, if you want to improve performance, the best thing to do would be get a faster processor.

Cheers all,

It's an Acer Aspire 9510. 17" widescreen. Unsure what mobo I'll try and find out.

I can run BF2 on mostly high settings but a couple of them I have to set medium/low. If i run it on high res and all high settings it stutters regularly.

Will games run better if I run them under Vista? As I have XP and Vista on a dual boot.

I'm thinking sod it and get a beasty desktop for games and a cheapesh laptop for work.

It only occurs when I wack all the video settings up on full. When I compromise some it doesn't stutter/lag. This is in online play.

sounds just like your getting to the laptops limit to be perfectly honest, if you're gettin artifacts or its crashing then i would suggest otherwise but theres nothing i can think of that is affordable/possible to get large framerate differences. Deffo get a desktop, a beefy Alienware tower with a 30" fat LCD screen and motion sensor keyboards and mouse. You'll love that i reckon!
