random shut off....green light stays on.

There are so many possible causes for this, so i did not know where else to post. My desktop randomly shut off this morning, and the only way I got it to turn back on (and even load the bios screen) was to switch off the power supply and wait 10 minutes...Now it loaded vista all the way...When it all shut off, the motherboard's power light stayed on, and when turned on, all the fans and the hard drive would spin...The power supply's almost brand new. Now my fear is a failing motherboard, so can anyone tell me if this is a symptom/sign to a future failing motherboard?

Could it be a heat problem? If your computer suddenly sht off it could be overheating. That would explain the waiting. The mobo power light staying on is normal, I have an ASUS board too. There is still a bit of power running through the system. As for the "when turned on, all the fans and the hard drive would spin" do you mean that Windows didn't load or there was no video?
More information please :P

well i doubt it's overheating because it was the first time i powered on the computer...around 6 am or so..and yes, the video would not display when it turned on except one time, and it was incredibly fuzzy and messed up...it's a radeon 9800 so i just opened it, unplugged the pci power and put it back in..I'm posting from it right now

apparently so, i'm still on it...i wasn't aware a loose pci power connector could cause a full system shut off... >_>...i guess i just need to try every possibility before starting a thread
