2nd Screen with a laptop

I'm debating getting an external screen for my Laptop BUT....

I'm worried that my graphics card will suport it...how do i find out what graphics card do i have?

and will it just work if i plug it into my VGA 15 Pin port?
 
first question, ehy do you need an external screen? that would help to kno that, because if we(as in the forum(hopefully me included)) dont know our reason why, we cant say wether its a good idea or not. i cant thik of i good reason, but thats for not needing one myself, i know that my friend uses 1 for work and 1 has wow runing o it, but im guessing your needs are more practical. graphics card uhh you need to know what card you have? if running xp(i think this is right,im on my mac) go to my computer. next look to the left and there is oh forget it im sorryi cant see it in my head to distracted. hopefully someone else posts how befoe i use the windows again later sory. but can ur graphics card take it? chandce are yes. if its a 32mb uh maybe not but i think its better than that. it also depends on what you plan on doing.
 
I'm sure many modern graphics solutions can support your resolution, my laptop with an ATi Radeon XPress 200M can run my ViewSonic @ 1680x1050 with a refresh rate of 60Hz. You will need to do some fiddling to get the screen as the right side and you'll also need to get the laptop to run on both monitors, it's likely it won't straight away.
 
Ah yes, I do that and it's great. It also helps with research as you can have Word in one screen and your browser in the other.

oh i do word and firefox, though i always have wanted to try running firefox and and a game 24/7 with insane cooling, are you worried about if your processr can take all the work?
 
Ohhh yea i never thought of that...

I don't do homework any more, but it could come in handy at somepoint

Does anyone know where i can order one of the internet? i need a decent one with a VGA 15 pin port

It's not the processor as much as the Graphics card

ive only got a AMD Sempron 3500+ :(

And i dont know how to check my graphics card???

uh dos mode is how i find it when i am lazy, but you can find it through control panel, and add/edit hardware i think.
 
if you right click on the desktop-> properties -> then when this window comes up its the far right tab.... it is right above the color settings
 
Yes i know how to get to the screen settings...

and macnoob...i havent got a clue what your last post says....i dont speak teenager
