Okay, you want to hear a story? You do, don't you? You must becuase you're here, and your obviously still reading. Okay then... get preparded to be BLOWN AWAY!!

So theres this guy... a friend of mine, not me... someone I know who isn't sure how to ask... it's... fine, it's me. ANYwhoo- my budget is around two thousand... canadian. I don't know- is this an american or canadian website...? Whatever, two thousand.

I would like to hear some opions on how to spend that money. I want a frickin sweet gaming system. Also going to use for video editing and such, but mostly the games, bra! Did I mention it has to be frickin sweet? Becuase it does...

I'm looking at the Dell website, Alienware, NCIX... and I would just like to know; what's the 411 on these systems? What's the word on the streets? Whats the down low? What would Huggie Bear say?

For instance- when I used to work for Staples in the office furniture section; we had about 10-12 different brands of desks available. I knew that two of those brands were high end, but for different reasons with different qualities and another three brands were about mid range and hard to tell apart from the top end and then the rest was crap. And a lot of customers who came in could not tell the difference between the quality and the crap. It was my job to tell them what was what and why. And that's kinda what I am looking for here... only not with office furniture. With computers. For gaming... you get it.

So what should I get?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I know I lied about blowing you away. Sorry. YHarrr I'm SO sorry.... yhar.

well have you even thought of building it yourself??? if you are going to build or buy get Core 2 duo, 8800GTX/GTS, 2 gigs of ram, a big 320 gig Hdd and a good mobo

Well I don't know how much 2000 cannadian is to the AUD, I think its around 3000 or abit less AUD and with that amount of cash, you can get yourself a pretty good system. One of my friends just got a system for $AU2700, and it had a Core 2 Duo E6600 which is mid range. Just to make myself clear, in terms of CPU I like Intel, because they are the best for performance at the moment, although it might not be the cheapest, they consume less power and runs faster than AMD counterparts, so I'm an Intel fan at the moment, it will change when AMD brings something good to the table, that is IF it happens.

Anyway, back to that system, it had 2GB of DDR800 ram with is more than enough, erring on overkill in my opinion, and his graphics card was the 8800GTX 1GB model sparkle (manufacturer). He also had a deluxe motherboard from Asus which is one of the major motherboard manufacturers.

But if you shop around I'm sure you can get a good deal, with the kind of money you are talking about, you can get yourself a really nice gaming system.

thats a pretty good build and the 8800GTX isn't 1gig its 768Mb

Bulid my own... my cat's breath smells like cat food.

Yeah, I have thought of it.. you know, I do know a lot about computers and shtuff, but I'm not sure I got what it takes to build my own... how hard is it? I'm not sure I would know what parts to get and such.

IF you can't build it yourself, you can usually get whoever you bought it from to build it. I know that memory express is good for that, but then that's only in Alberta, Canada. Alienware is good, just very expensive. I myself, for gaming, would stay away from Dell, HP, Compaq, Acer, and basically any brand like that. I know that memory express sells velocity prebuilt systems and they're nice, but you have to get a computer from some place other than futureshop, Bestbuy, Staples, maybe even London drugs, The Source, those places all sell cheaper stuff. I myself would get a nice prebuilt system from a custom computer shop, like memory express.
