Just something to make discussion about .. Was it around a year or 2 back or even 3 now .. i really don't remember but was it only not 2 long ago .. that AMD was leading the performance market....Now with intel's core 2's AMD's just getting a hiding from Intel. Intel comes up with better architechure and all AMD can do is up the frequency .. Anyone hear of any roomers of amd making something new and exciting.

Sad to say but i had to switch from AMD to Intel...but i'm pretty happy with my new core 2 duo... :) so ..

Oh has anyone switched from a core 2 to a x2 or a FX .. or ..

Yea, not only does Intel have core 2, They Have quad-cores, at 2.93 GHZ extreme performance edition. Do the math... thats like... 12GHZ OF POWER!

Intel only took the lead in the last year, if that... It's a very recent thing Beofre the "core" architecture AMD was leading all the way, theres no disputing that. I'm an intel fan, have been since the pentium 1 days... yes it is finally paying off but in this type of market its sort of like a game of volleyball, with AMD and intel on opposite sides, the market leader being signified by the ball, its back and forth several times in a few years, one company will release something the other company will counter-release something to compete with it....

Ok so intel got a bit lucky with "core" i dont think they could have imagined it to perform so well. AMD will bounce bak, of course they will, but then how long is one company ever going to stay on top (not taking any notice of the 4-5 year slump from intel, bloody netburst, GAH!!!)

Dragon2309 your 100% right. I'm sure one day in the future both companies will get to a point where they cant go further anymore..... New materials would have to be used to make the procesors instead of silicone.

wow has it only been a year its seemed longer .. but not 2 long .. and yea .. they've started to devlope plastic chips some new conductive plastic stuff.. donno how it really works but they have it on like couches and like cloths and other crazy stuff .. it sounds good.

other thing is quote 'dragon2309' "I'm an intel fan, have been since the pentium 1 days... yes it is finally paying off"... is it really paying off.. i think what I'm doing pays off more lol, just join who eva's winning the race at the time. that ways i always get best performance for by??? better than sticking to one side even when there loosing. this isn't no foot ball game.

though AMD has been using the K8 architeture for 5 years, intel fought back with the Pentium D series but lost terribly, so its just normal for the Core 2 Duo to win.

AMD bought ATI recently so their indept around.. 50 million dollars? i saw so AMD overviews and i think thats what it said. So AMD is trying to sell products to get the most money out of people. Now who has the most money? Enthusists or people who own servers? AMD is gonna release new quad core opteron chips soon that are only said out perform intel's. Mabye thats why Intel is dropping their prices for hardly any reason...

Now people have been saying AMD is gonna go out of buisness for like what? the past 10 years whenever intel made something new? Its just a non-stop see saw battle.

Even if AMD did go out of buisness, they still got ATI to fall back on. From reviews i saw, ATI direct x 9 cards out perform nvdia's and nvdia had to release their direct x 10 card 8800 gts just so they can get the performance crown with no competition. ATI hopfully will release their R600 card soon (AMD is holding it back).

And lets say they do go out of buisness (AMD). ATI could make kickass graphic cards with AMD CPUs in them. Running at over 2ghz and with cache rather than ram, would it be a lot better?

Also when Pentium D came out, did u guys thought it was dual core? most thought it was just 2 cpus put together. If you look it at that way, the quad Kentsfield are just 2 conroes put together. Just another way of looking at it...

AMDs Barcelona line will rock once again =)
Q3 ^_^

But then I guess we'll see what Intel will put out in Q3 as well.
Other than the fact of selling Quad cores for $266.

PLEASE read the CPU 101.

Of course Intel has the stage now, and have for 8 months, not even a year. It is called a competitive market. These tend to happen in capitalist economies, in case you haven't noticed. AMD will upstage Intel with something, Intel will upstage AMD with something, etc.

I personally don't think AMD is behind. I have both, and I prefer my AMD dual core over my intel. Personal preference, of course. I won't buy another intel ... AMD has just won me over. AMD will never go out of business because of fanboys like me. Really, my 4600+ performs as well as I could imagine ... I think they're on fairly level playing grounds. It's a back and forward battle of who is superior at the time.

I'm sure AMD's not in debt, from what i read on tomshardware news section there not in debt they've just lost 50millon in the last year or something buying up ATI but im sure AMD still big and rich.. surely wont go outa business. there huge company.

Yea they're on a fairly level playing ground, but for the price and performance I think Intel's just better.

I use to own a AMD 64 x2 4800+ at 2.4ghz stock. and now I own a E6400 2.13 stock. Even at a lower stock speed it performs better. my E6400 was around the same price of my AMD 64 x2 4800+ I only managed to overclock my x2 4800+ to 2.7 before before i had to up the voltage... wasn't much compared to my E6400 which is running at 3.2ghz per core now ... easyerly done. without voltage upping.

I was pretty happy with my x2 4800 but i think im more happyer with my E6400, but there will be the day where i ll join back with AMD. I pick the side thats winning lol :) I think both are great companys, but one thing i hate about Intel is there so so so crappy stock coolers.... AMD definately has better stock coolers.

wow that sux. amd and ati. the two losing companies for this moment under the same roof. i guess when they both bounce back, they will be unstoppable... if AMD can recover from a fifty million dollar debt
