Shortly i'll be getting an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (AM2) processor. I've read somewhere that it's bus speed is 1000mhz, do i need to get a motherboard with support for 1000mhz or will one at 800 be ok.;)

Thanx

I think you'll need one that is 1000mhz or maybe higher. I think if it's at 800 and the CPU needs 1000, it'll be underclocked.

That's just the HTT speed. All S939 and AM2 CPUs have the same HTT speed (200Mhz * 5). There's no particular compatibility requirement.

So if i had a motherboard with only 800mhz fsb, would the processor still run at top speed (2.4ghz)?

All AM2 motherboards has a 1000 HT, it will drop to 800 if you run a Sempron on it!

Like I said (all) AM2 boards have a 1000mhz HT, you can set it back to 800 if your overclocking to keep from overclocking your HT. The 4600 runs on 200mhz FSB with a X of 12. 200X12=2.4ghz with a Hyper Transport speed of 1000mhz.

The stock speed of the processor has nothing to do with the HT speed, If your 4600 runs at 2.4 and you drop your HT settings to X3 600mhz your processor still runs at 2.4 ghz. You have to raise or lower your FSB or X to change the speed of your processor

I know about changing the fsb etc. I was just a little confuzed about the HT thingy.

Well since the X2 4600 has droped in price to 119 bucks and the 6300 is 181 and the 6400 is 218. The X2 4600 is a pretty good deal!
