In answer to you're question, yes, of course you can, it's standard definition which would mena it operates at a "normal" resolution, hence your vid card will do it fine... There isnt an instance, anywhere, anytime EVER that plugging a TV into your graphics card would make it blow up...
 
um ok I think I'll believe dragon on this one. I'll be doing some hard core gaming over spring break and need a big viewing area.

you def. wanna use something with a horizontal resolution of 480

The vertical is flexible, but you'll notice more and more jagged edges and other artifacts the higher you go.
 
Regardless what resolution you set your computer to, the output is limited to 720x480(or you could just say 480i) Plus, your computer is not interlaced(progressive if you will) where the TV IS interlaced. That conversion causes more quality loss...
