Upcoming gaming rig.... what about SLI???

I'm getting that same case. I'll be getting the GTS 640 though, why the 320?
Also if you aren't happy with the PSU that you are thing about getting, check the one in my sign.

The Thermaltake? It does indeed have 4 18A rails, but that doesn't total to 72A. You can draw up to 18A from any single rail, but you can't draw a full 18A from all four rails at the same time. The combined 12V rating is 56A. This is, however, a peak rating rather than a continuous one.

so.. what would you recommend for me to choose for a PSU that can support my GTX as well as GTX in SLI further down the road (in a couple of years)?

thanks :)

My recommendation: Silverstone OP750. Much better than the Thermaltake for only a few extra dollars. Can be found cheaper outside newegg if you'd prefer. Having said that, a second 8800GTX probably won't be a sound investment in a couple of years.

yeah... i wont be going SLI with these unless the card is starting to slow down cuz cant take the new games... but i guess by that time more new cards will be out which are stronger... so we'll see about that.

anyway, thanks for your recommendation... its been a great help...
thanks for everyone who give their opinion too!! :D
cant wait for the price drop! this build is gonna be awesome!! haha...

You definatly won't need SLi with a 19" screen and by the time you do need it for the price you will pay for the second card you will get less performance then for a single new card (89xx series or better by then).
Also I suggest you get a 22" widescreen with either the 320mb 8800GTS or the 640mb if you can afford it. I think all over it gives a better gaming expirence as you see more of the game :P.
You don't need a sound card as onboard is fine unless you are using $2000+ speakers and are a audiophile :P.
Also for the burner get SATA not IDE as SATA is the new they thing and you don't want that ugly IDE ribbon running through your beautiful new case :P
RAM wise you would be fine with 2x1GB of A-DATA 667MHz stuff. it's only $111.99 and you will notice a loss of 3fps max with IMHO isn't worth the $60 or so.
And I think that motherboard is overkill you could get away with a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 for half the price, ask yourself what has the ASUS got that the Gigabyte hasn't, then is it worth $100?
And finally for the much debated Power Supply. The PSU I would get isn't at www.newegg.com (I'm from australia so I use a different shop) but it's called the Coolermaster iGreen 600W silent. If you could find that for a good price then get it as it will haddle your system fine and has a very good rep back here in Aus.
Anyway that's all I can be bothered changed ATM and sorry for the lack of links but I'm lazy :P

The "Dual Rails: Yes" at newegg is a typo. The OP750 is in fact a single rail unit. The ST75ZF is another great unit, and used to be my top recommendation at this pricepoint. It's arguably a better quality unit, but I prefer the single rail on the OP750 as well as the extra 8pin PCI-E connection. It's also cheaper and quieter. Both would be good choices, though.
