Long shot, but is there a way or program to get back deleted items?

I'm reaching out on a limb here but if you lost some pictures on the hdd, is there a program you can use to recover them? Thanks!

Dave

Yes, there are plenty of them.
But before you try any you should
1-Never write anything on the drive you want to recover files from. which means don't install the program on that drive.
2-Take some time to read the instructions of the program carefully so you can get the best results.

I recommend GetDataBack. I've used it before with great success.

Limitations:

· The demo version allows you to perform the data recovery and to see and verify your recovered files. (A license key is then required to actually save these files).

That's the obvious drawback seen with most sharewares to start off with. If you are only planning on a one time retrieval a freeware is usually the item sought. For those that make a lot of data transfers and make partition changes lke multibooting OSs then the full retail version has a place.

Heres another completely free one. just thought I'd share. I hate installing a program and then finding out its crippled or can only be used for a few days or whatever. Pandora Recovery is freeware. www.pandorarecovery.com

I hadn't heard of freeundlete. I'm going to have to try that one out. ;-)

I've heard of Panda on several occasions. That's a good reference there. But what could also help here is the results from different search engines combined to locate the tool that will work. http://infospace.abcnews.com/_1_2ZUPTJW044RH9ML__info.abcnws.toolbar/search/web/freeware%2Bdata%2Brecovery%2Btools

Several freewares are at http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html This site has no adwares or spybots to worry about there. Most there will even run on Vista as well as XP.

There are a good number of freewares as well as sharewares you can find. But the main thing is finding the right one that can recover the type of files you are trying to retrieve. The PC Inspector tool there does seem to only offer a limited number of file types.

i've used Stellar Phoenix in the past to recover data off failed hard drives that were no longer accessible via windows. it can also be used to retrieve deleted files. the same rules apply for it as for other programs though, free trial lets you see the stuff, but you need to register it to save the stuff.

A good retail full version software will generally have support for a larger variety of file types. This is one to consider there. You first have to look at the file types you have been working with and go with the best suited. If you are planning to upgrade from XP to Vista go for one that is Vista ready for sure. That will save on cost later if you go retail and end up having to replace some program you just bought.
