a long time ago there was a patch released to cover that hole in windows. What is happening is a piece of software (virus worm mal ware) something is exploiting the remote procedure command to shut down your computer. The reason reinstalling windows worked was because it removed what ever was exploiting this hole. What you'll have to do is remove what ever is activating that command then you'll need to install the patch so it can't happen again.

And use Firefox !
Rules of the game, update to SP2 (Service Pack 2) use Firefox, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Defender for spyware protection. Most importantly, have an AntiVirus software in your computer!

These are basic requirements to prevent such headaches for you.

Re-install Windows, download and install Service Pack 2 and then apply all the other applications I mentioned above to secure a safe operation of your computer.

Good luck!

you wouldn't have to reinstall windows, in addition for some people that isn't an option. You could also use Opera web browser
http://www.opera.com/
it's just as nice as fire fox and even fewer people use it.
Try one of those removal tool before you go reinstalling windows.
