Ram sharing with video card?

I have a question regarding my video card. Several months back I upgraded from 512 to 1024 mb of ram. After I rebooted, I noticed my GeForce 7300 LE graphics card now had 512 mb, when it usually has 256. I figured that it was sharing the ram. But does that mean I only use 768mb of ram for my basic applications? Or does it only borrow the ram when I am playing a game?

No, if a lower end card like that has TurboCache, it will take some of your system RAM for texture memory. You can change how much in BIOS or in the Nvidia driver settings.

the thing about TurboCache is that the graphic card's memory will be boosted by taking some from your RAM... so it is normal to see this...

I thinks its AGP aperture. I have a 7900GT and it displays that I have 256MB dedicated and 256MB shared. I specify the shared amount in the BIOS.
