Hi,

Can anybody help me build a decent gaming PC for under £380.

I already have speakers, keyboard, mouse, monitor, case, DVD drives and an Antec 380watt PSU (that I don't want to change)

I would like to go with an Intel Core 2 Duo as well :D

Also, stores from the UK please, Thanks a lot :)
 
gonna be fairly difficult, i reckon you could get close to that price though, for instance..

You could probably reduce it a bit by taking the memory down to generic, knock the gfx card down a notch or so etc. Might bring it to around the £400 mark

Was trying to stay with your price.. The 7600GS inst the best GPU out there but it will do the job, as far as ram goes.. i dont know, i just picked the 1 gig stick because i couldent find any 2x512 combos on the site,

big difference between £ and euro, £380 = 558 euros

we aint joined that european currency malarky just yet :)

edit : pcworld really aint the place to buy components in the UK, over here they are known for being way over priced :)

PSU!!!
He can't run C2D and GF7950 with a 380W PSU.

in the us, the cheapest you can get a new core2duo is $169. which converts to around 250euro. the cheapest core2duo motherboard is around $45 which would be around 75euro. but then you'll also need DDR2 ram and a video card which would put it over the 380 euro limit.

of course, this is just threw estimation on the us-> conversion rate and assming the stuff is the same cost over there.

The hardware cost is nearly 20%-30% more than US as UK have 17.5% VAT. and we have less choice.

yea, i just noticed that and deleted the post.
plus, 1 euro = 1.3 us dollars. i thought it was the other way around so the costs were completly wrong anyway.

personally i beg to differ, i think a decent 380w psu would be enough to run it in the end, although the 7950gt draws a fair bit of power the core 2 duo is pretty efficient. I think it would be just under but would be enough.

People tend to overestimate the needs of a power supply too much and go for complete overkill on the wattage when all thats really needed is a lower wattage but reliable dual or triple 12v rails.

VAT is on there, please at least read my post, i've stated clearly underneath that the total cost comes to £453.16 and then go on to mention ways that can be cut down. Its being used as an example of how close you might be able to get to the £380 budget without reducing things so much that compromise the efficiency of the system

I will not buy hardware from PCworld, it too expensive.
A lot of people say ECS MB is crap
7600GS is not enough for gaming
Where is the HD?

the system i mentioned i believe would draw around the 300-320w mark, if its a decent enough antec psu with good rails then it should be enough. with ebuyers RMA service its worth at least trying and seein how stable it is. People really can overestimate a systems requirements at times......
