Will an 8800 work with a P4?

Of course it would work, why shouldn't it provided that your motherboard has PCI-E slot. The only problem I see is that you are wasting your money because that card will NOT perform at its fullest potential so its not economical to use such a configuration.
 
I asked becouse the guy at our computer store told my brother it wouldnt work. I told him just what You told me and he wanted to beleive the guy at the computer store over me:) Im so happy i was right lol. how much of a difference would it make do you think?
 
Well, the perform will be restricted by the CPU, RAM basically your entire computer, I have not tried this before but I'd imagine an 8800GTX would get around 7500-8500 in 3dmark 06 when it should be getting around 10k. No one does that man, its just stupid.
 
Computer store guys always think they know everything.....I went to Office Depot to look for a router(for someone else), I was looking for a Netgear. He directed me to a Linksys and wouldn't shut up until I bought it, I argued with him that it was hard to configure and screwed with your Remote Assistance. I finally bought the friggin' Linksys and thanks to Mr. Know-it-All, it did cause problems and as for the Netgear<Not a single problem. They say that they install and work with these products for a living, well, they must not have gotten far with their career. Just remind them, "YOU WORK AT OFFICE DEPOT!!!"

Its just a figure of speech, I talk like that to girls also.

Don't get me started on salesperson stupidity, man they are stupid, I asked about Linux once because I didn't want to download and he went to the games section.
Also when I requested a replacement toner cartridge for my laser printer, the sales dude went and searched in the inkjet section. =_=
 
It will work as long as his computer has a PCI-E x16 slot and a powerful enough power supply, but it doesnt matter if it's a P4. So yes, it will work with a P4.
 
You should combine 8800gtx with the new core 2 duos or the new intel quad cores.
 
Ya, as stated above the processor itself doesn't have a real bearing on whether or not the graphics card will work, but again, you would get much higher performance out of said card with a better cpu. The P4 would just hold the 8800 back, but would it work? Hell yes.

And on the salesman thing. I find some people are way to harsh on salesmen. I work at best buy and I see it all the time. People expect computer salesman to know Every answer to every single question. When your in the computer field, I dont care who you are, you are not going to be an expert in every single field. But what makes a salesman seem stupid or retarded is when they wont admit to not knowing something and they just rant on about something they dont know anything about.

Mind you, im 19 in college, working at Best Buy to take a look at the pc field from a sales perspective while I go to school. I actually learn a crapload of things every single day. I honestly never thought I would seeing how its a Best Buy (and when I used to go in there all the time the employees never seemed to know very much). But what many people dont realize is that you dont have to know anything about pc's to be hired in these departments at retail stores. They care more about how you handle customers and people. =)
