Can someone Help me put together a pc that can beat the Hp below with out being more expansive?

I need two builds please fell free to let me know your options on some of my requirements. Please read on.

HP Pavilion Desktop PC (A1720N)
• Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
• 320GB hard drive
• LightScribe-enabled
all in one memory card reader

• 1GB of DDR2 memory
• Burns DVDs and CDs
• Windows Vista Home Premium
You pay:
$769.99
Mail-in rebate(s):
-$200.00
--------
$569,99

Build #1:

This build is for my friends dad. I don't think he will play any games, but a mainstream video card should do him good. Please keeps in mind that it is for a older person.

I have the OS so it does not need to be included on the final build price.

micro ATX Case(not the square box ones),cheap cases are ok but it need to look fairly ok. What do you guys think?

I know the Core 2 Duo price is going to drop soon so if possible can you help me make a list with all the parts and put the drooped price beside the current price?

Thanks alot

Notes: $570 is the price to beat without getting beat by the HP when it comes to performance.

Build #2

For myself

I am tight on the budget so I need the build to be as cheap as possible. but still meets my requirements.

As of now, i really want a quad core pc seeing how much the price will drop for the cpu. (when is the price drop for the quad core?) Is it a wast for me? Please read on and please let me know your thoughs.

SO this pc is build around the intel quad core.

As for the Mobo: I may try overclocking the cpu a little, maybe 3 or 4 years down the road. So it would be the best if there is option on the Bios for me to do all the overclocking needs with out worrying about when would happened to my video card/RAM or what ever that is effected when overclocking the CPU.

If the build price will significantly increase do to overclocking needs then forget about it.

Ram needs to be 2GB dual channels, nothing more. May expand on it later on depending on the needs.

Fairly good video card to play today's game in good setting. Please keep in mind that i am not a gamer. The game I may play in the future is probably
Ragnarok online 2.

Recommended system requirements:
Pentium 4 CPU, 2.40 GHz
1GB of RAM
GeForce 4Ti/GeForce FX5700/Radeon 9000
Win 98/ME/2000/XP

So no need for the top of the line video card. but could like to play that game in the best setting possible.

Brand name DVD burner. Example. Pioneer NEC

All in one memory card reader, just the one that will do the job, no need to be fancy. Does it fit in the floppy bay?

Power supply that will meet the needs for the system. (I will add another optical drive later, Maybe Rams too)

A good sized quiet hardrive.

Is it worth it to set up a RAID? how much will the final build price increase?

This is my second and third build, so please guys help me out.

Especially the first one, since i can't let my friend's father down. He has a 2.4ghz P4 with 1GB of ram right now and he thinks it is slow. from what i know he just check email with outlook and useing internet explorer.

Thanks everyone.

The only thing I am unsure of is the mobo, I know it has integrated video, but its also micro-ATX, so I am unsure everything else would work with it. Of course the price could drop with the "price drop" from Intel on the E6300. I forgot to add that you should check with someone else to be sure that all parts are compatible as I am not experienced with building computers.

There could always be a micro-ATX case like that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119089 but unlike the Sonata, I don't know(or think) the PSU would be ok for the computer.

once you buy the O/S it ends up being more expensive

Thanks Kilauea and cryption. I have no idea if these parts are compatible or not . which is why i asked other to help me pick.

it still needs a video card. Anyway. I am not on a hurry, lets see what the prices are like when the intel do drop their cpu price.

from what you say your friend's dad is doing, the computer he has currently is plenty good enough. he has probably just accumulated some malware which spybot, ad-aware, and an anti-virus should fix.

Thats what I told him. But you know he is kinda old, so i don't want to offer it if he or my friends does not ask me. If it didn't work he would probably nag me to death. :P

He'll probably nag you more if the new PC isn't as fast as he's expecting. Some people do have unrealistic expectations about PCs, and it probably wouldn't hurt to take a look at it first to see how it's performing.

For the tasks you've described, you shouldn't notice the difference between the old PC and the new one (assuming software config is identical). Formatting the old drive and reinstalling should fix any problems he's having in any case.
