hey guys i was wondring if anyone could help me with a small problem with my display. my video card btw is a nvidia geforce 5200 fx. in the past i have connected it to my crt monitor using the vga cable. i recently bought a widescreen lcd monitor that to my surprise has a dvi connector on the back. seeing as that i now have a monitor that is capable and my video card has the connector as well, i figured i would finally be able to convert over to dvi. unfourtunately, when i plug in the dvi cable into both and unplug the vga, it says no signal is reaching the monitor. i have tried countless solutions and none seem to be working. any and all help will be greatly apprectiaed.

Is the monitor DVI only? Or does it have both DVI and VGA?

The problem could perhaps be that somehow by default, the DVI port is trying to run a refresh rate or resolution over what the monitor supports. Does the monitor work when you connect it via a VGA cable? If it does, and you cant figure out why the DVI isnt working, you might as well just stick with VGA since theres virtually no difference in quality between the VGA and DVI cable on an average desktop monitor.

yes, there are connections for both vga and dvi on my monitor and my computer, but only vga works when plugged in.

Have you set your monitor to accept the DVI (Digital) signal. Some automatically sense it, but others you have to tell it which you're using.

ive been trying to figure out how to do that... i am running a dell 4800 or 4400 i believe with windows xp and i believe i have the latest nvidia drivers with that nvidia program

You need to do it on the monitor in a menu right on the hardware. Try looking around in the menus of the actual monitor
