eBay

Hiya folks!

I was wondering what eBay uses (bank account, address etc) to 'associate' one account with another.

As, my sister has a suspended account and I have my account with a different bank account etc, but mine was 'associated' with my sisters suspended account and got suspended too!

Ive emailed eBay and its like going round in circles.

Can anyone help please?

I imagine it would be the address in your case, but other things could associate accounts. I'm guessing they think both of your accounts are owned by the same person.

Hey,
Well we both use the same PC, so if I used a laptop (while my sis used the PC) would I get a different IP address with the same ISP, using a router?

What other things could associate? Im not exactly going to move out if its the home address?

Oh, you said address, I presume you mean IP address? If you meant home address, could one of the the reasons BE the IP address?

I don't think they suspended that other guys account just because it has the same home address as the susupended one. You are allowed to have multiple accounts from the same address from memory. I signed up ages ago, they might have changed it.

They dont suspend you're IP, they suspend your credit/debit card number, phone number, and name.

I know because I was suspended for a really stupid reason, and the only way for me to make a new account was to use my dads name (same address and all), and use his credit card for verification.

LOL if its a stupid reason you should complain.
I tried for months trying to get my account back, but couldnt. They said they suspended me because I was selling a computer that I didnt actually have. It's true, but like many other people on eBay, I listed a computer for sale, and when they paid me I bought the parts on Newegg, built it, and then shipped it out. I even said in the listing that it will take 7-10 days to arrive.

So, by opening say, a new bank account (new bank details), new eBay account?

So switching ISP's would do nothing. Unless I also did the above (new bank account etc)?

You dont even need to enter bank information on eBay, just a debit/credit card.

And switching ISP's would do absolutely nothing, because eBay doesnt suspend you based on that. And I'm proof of that, since I use eBay on a new account on the same computer with the same external IP, and everything works fine.

OK, but... the debit/credit card would have to be registered on eBay to a different name, not mine, if is the name (mine) that is suspended?

As the one on file at eBay, the suspended one is in my name. So, Id have to open a new bank account to get a new debit card, no?

Oh I gotcha, I thought you meant to get a different bank account number. I was lucky enough to have my parents here so I could use their name and credit card for verification.

You can try using a different name but same credit card and see if it works, the worst thing that will happen is tell you that the account tied with that card is suspended.

Yeah, worst that could happen is the new eBay account would be suspended!

I think Ill try opening a new bank account, get a new debit card number and ask my brother to open a new eBay account in his name and address, see how that goes.

thanx for all the input, always appreciated!

Shit man, the same thing happened with me and drop shipping!!!!!! They said I was selling fake! They had no proof to go by! What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty!? Apparently your guilty, period.

Right now I live with my family, so we all have the same ISP, computers, address, phone number, etc.

I made the new eBay account with all my information and stuff, but the only thing I did different was I used my dads credit card and his name instead of mine. Nothing happens with his credit card, its just for verification. So perhaps you could ask your brother to make an ebay account, but then you use it for everything.

Now that I think about it, I think the phone number is blocked to, so I just used my cell phone for the second account. You may be able to even buy one of those pre-paid credit cards and use it for the verification, instead of opening up a new bank account.

Pre paid credit cards, Im not sure if I can get that over here (UK), I may have to open a new bank account.

But then, I run into the problem of it being in my name (address), the same as the suspended account.

Ill try and see how it goes.
