Hard to install MS OFFICE 2000 on ubuntu OS

I installed(one of my friend installed) a new OS system, which ubuntu. Now, it is really a strange OS and I dont know how to install MS OFFICE in there. So someone please help me who have got ubuntu OS or anyone who know how to do this.

Why do you even want to try installing MS Office under Ubuntu?

Ubuntu comes with OpenOffice... check the Applications Menu.

MS office won't install on a Linux Distro (That's what ubuntu is.) Open office is designed for your OS and works quite well for free.

If you want to use office go with windows.

If I work from home in OpenOffice and stored it onto a memory pen, does it open in my school computer ??????? My school use MS OFFICE. That is why I tried to install MS office on Ubuntu.
I thought open office is something like Microsoft Works. MS works come up with dell computers and if we do any work on microsoft works, it wont open in ms office. Does Ubuntu has problem like that?

In open office you can save files as .doc (Word)

You can save in MS formats and open MS formats, so in theory you shouldn't have any problems.

All I have installed on my machines is Open Office...they are windows based, but I don't have any problems using my documents or reading ones from school.

For word go to:

1. File

2. Save As

3. Right under File Name there is Save as type.

4. Click on the arrow and click on which version of office your school has and then there you go.

Ubuntu is not strange.First of all why installing linux and say its strange ?..anyways you CAN install office 2000 on it (even 2003).I've been there and done that. It won't work with wine. But it will work with the official wine,CROSSOVER OFFICE.

Would you mind to tell me how do I do that? I can see the icon coming on the desktop. But I cant find the right file. Every icon looks same (strange even). So please help me if you can

this is the official wine. And office 2k works. There's no double clicking any icon to install office of linux

Linux, Weird?! If you can't use Office on Ubuntu just use Open Office. I use it, even on Windows.
