Speed Fan Prog Question

greetings,

i have a biostar board, 1gb ddr ram, 4.0+/- ghz processor speed, win xp pro sp1+2. i have installed speed fan to monitor settings and have a few questions.

1...since installing speed fan, my floppy drive is "rythmicly" becoming initialized similar to the boot up floppy seek function. why is that and how do i stop it?

2...i have multiple case fans blowing across the board and onto the hard drive and all are connected to the power supply power source and not to the board or any "sensor". i of course have a giant cpu fan.

3...in the section of speed fan program (readings), there are multiple fan "listings' with only #1 as being functional as i have a cpu fan. in that section, fan #1 is functional and is about 4300rpm. fan listings 2 and 3 are non functional.

4...on the right of that i have multiple temperature listings, 4 temp listings (temp1, temp 2, temp 3, and temp 1 again) that appear to be always changing and 1 hard drive listing that appears to be constant.

*******so, which one is the actual cpu temp?...

*******so, which one is the actual hd temp?...

*******and why does the program habitually initialize my floppy drive when program is in use and how do i "fix" that??

thanks for any replies!

if the HD is constant probably that syour real actual temp. the fan questoin, i they're connected to the motherboard then it wont detect it unless the fans are connected to the mobo.

...huh?.....i have already stated that the only fan that is connected to the mainboard is the cpu fan. anyone else have any ideas?

First what would be very useful is the exact info on the CPU. (Reason being is CORE 2 duo etc. show different temps readings). Second the best way to detemine which one is the CPU temp is...

*to let the computer idle for 10 mins, then really romp on it, play some video games etc. Then go back and see which 1 of the temp(s) rose the most.

*In regard to the Hard drive, if there is a temp that is running between 30c-40c, this is most likely your hard drive.

Your FDD probably initializes itself when opening Speedfan because the program is sending signals to the FDD Controller trying to find out info about it.

...

....thanks for the reply...i can see maybe when the program (speed fan) first starts up but, ALL THE TIME and on a continual basis?

Yes, it resends the signals each time the program is started, to look for changes in hardware etc, for instance the CPU Frequency tab is live, and things like PCIE lane data can change without a restart. So i believe this prog does send signals every time it's started, which is the reason why it takes so long to start up.

..no, unless i misunderstand you, you seem to be way off base...the program will start after i tell it to.....then, it should run continuously and w/o the constant "floppy initialization" i am getting.....

....this prog should, in effect, control the fan speed of the only fan it should find as well as monitor the temps...it should not affect the floppy drive, but it does..

You seem to be very rude to people who are only trying to help you.
Or it just appears that way to me.

But anyway, Just becuase it's called SpeedFAN, doesn't mean it only controls the Fans/monitor temps.
It does other stuff too, you know.
If you would have read a little bit about it before you clicked the download button, you would have known that.

..hold it!...it is not my intent to be rude or condesending!...it just appears that way to you..i asked a question and got an answer that seemed to come from way out of left field. i called no names or implied none...so, leave it at that.

...i also never implied that it controlled the fans or monitored temps although, if YOU would have read it, that is what it appears to do!

....i also DID read the "literature" on SPEED FAN so, don't tell me what i should have done without having any substantial evidence that i did not!...defense rests.

I dislike Speed fan, it gets the temps wrong half of the time and this temp 1-2-3-4, whats that all about, I would not trust it to control anything. If you just want something to see your temps and system info. try these

...from what i can see, you are correct. however, i am looking for someting that can display the cpu temp directly in the system tray as opposed to cpuid which i have and which doesn't or sysoff sandra which i have and also does not.

....just checked out the program link that was suggested...a bit too complicated" for me.....that is, a lot of settings and such that i would not and do not need to use...i will look around and see what else is out there ..

None of these work for me..........Motherboard manager asks way too much and does nothing. My temps and stuff look real good, I could feel the components and tell much more about them than that crappy program does. Speedfan has one good thing about it SIMPLICITY!!!!

and thats why we dont use speedfan.:D

Yeah, okay Mr. Sophistication.............you go right ahead and use whatever it is your using, that screenshot wasn't of Speedfan, it was of Motherboard Manager. At least use Speedfan before you diss it, you really shouldn't diss it with everyone else to fit in.
