question regarding third parties...(evga, msi, etc.)

ok, I am debating between the following two cards:
EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card $259.99 after rebate

or

MSI NX8800GTS-T2D320E-HD OC GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card $289.99 after rebate

1. Are these third party cards just as good as the actualy nvidia 8800 gts's, or should I find an actual ATI or NVIDIA card?
2. If the answer to the first question is yes, which one should I go for if I want to run games like half life 2 and crysis at 30fps at least without lag on high settings? Obviously bringing bang for my buck into play, is the more expensive one worth the price difference?

Ah, on a side note, regarding the comp in my sig, would I need a stronger power supply, and should I even bother waiting until june for the rumored significant quad core price drop, or should I just get the core 2 duo e6600 2.4ghz now?

the more expensive cards have better quality memory installed therefore will be more stable especially if you plan to overclock. you will be able to play those HL2 easily but doubt you will be able to play crysis on high

and with the quad core business, i would get the e6600 now and wait maybe a year till you get a quad core. Then they should be nice and cheap ($266). it is gonna take a while for software to catch up and actually be able to use the extra cores so you may as well wait

Nvidia doesnt make their own cards, they rely on makers such as the ones you mentioned to make and distribute their GFX cards. On the subject of them there isnt much difference between the individual cards.. the customer service, warranties, Special deals (like Evga's step-up) are the main distinction. The two companies you choose are very good ones so either one would be a good choice.

I'm not certain on the power supply issue, but i don't believe you would need to change it. And with the Quad issue, Quad cores are inevitably the future.. whether or not you want to wait is up to you. :)

As far as i know the more expensive variants usually have more memory.. and to combat the costs they use higher latencied memory. So the more expensive cards actually have lower quality memory.. :P

>_> an engadget.com post of the ati x2900 is causing me to have second thoughts...

oh and tommy25, how much did that macbook pro in your profile cost 0_0.
