old drive

I have an old HP Pavilion 8180, and the disk drive just burned out. I really want to replace the drive, but, not surprisingly, can't find one anywhere. The specs for the drive are as follows:

Access Speed-120 ms
Transfer Rate-2400 Kbps
24X Max Speed

Where could I find one of these? Or, if you know how to play the D3D version of Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries on XP, I would appreciate that too!

I am afraid that a current cd drive would be much too powerful-this computer is about 10 years old (still running strong, except for the drive).

CD drives can never be "too powerful".
You should be able to use any IDE drive available.
This includes, CD-ROMs, CD burners, DVD-ROMs and DVD-burners.
Get yourself a nice DVD burner for $40, you won't be able to find a slow speed CD-ROM, and if you do, it won't be worth it to buy it.

agreed. there's no such thing as "too powerful". thats nonsense. on my 486Dx it has a 16x DVD player and a 52x16x52 writer!
