Can I overclock?

I have bought a computer from a local computer store, which they assembled to suite my requirements.

What I am wondering is because it isnt assembled by a big retail brand such as Dell, will it still have the locks that prevent me from overclocking and changing those kind of things?

Thanks.,

It *might* be something like:

Code:
Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.B)

At least it says something like that on mine.

You can overclock ANYTHING in some way or another. I believe back in the day, the way to overclock the old Pentium 133mhz cpu's was to connect 2 certain pins on the chip with a pencil.

Even consoles can be overclocked, you could probibly even overclock a cars computer chip!(not that it would make your car faster or anything lol).

But anyway, if the current BIOS is locked, then you should be able to load a new BIOS for that motherboard and try and overclock.

Gigabyte boards are great overclocking boards. Coupled With a good Stepping on that CPU it's theoretically possible to hit the 4ghz mark.

Ok thanks, does anyone have a good site that can teach me how to overclock?
Also, while I am asking stuff, if my graphics card has been overclocked and I can tell its not stable, from seeing glitches while in games, does it matter that much. it runs at about 35-40 degrees celcius. so is it ruining my card or is it fibe as long as its not working too hard?

dunno about card, since i dont overclock it, ,but at the beginning of the copmuterforum CPUs & Overclocking, it has a overclocking 101

I don't know of any good Intel overclocking guides cause i'm an AMD guy but here goes..

If none of these work try another Google search.

To the graphics card question.. When you start to see the artifacting, or tearing it means you've reached the ceiling of your overclock. I know you can permanently kill your card by overclocking too aggressively, Or by ignoring signs of unstability.. Whether or not you've pushed too far i don't know. I suggest lowering the core clock acouple mhz to see if that helps. Other than that Overclock at your own risk! lol.

If its the rig in your sig your talking about overclocking....why?

Lol its already 3.4Ghz

i think if you want more performance out of the machine you should at least get another 512mb of ram.
