Question About Pre N Wireless Cards & N Routers

i currently have a combination broadband RCA 725 something combo Modem Router which made laptop is connected to via a G wireless card (my desktop is connected to this modem by ethernet cable). Anyway, if I purchase one of these faster Pre N/N Cards will it makie difference at all as the Router is a G anyway? Alternatively, Could I hook up an N router to my Roadrunner Service or do I first have to see if Roadunner supports N?

Wow, a lot of questions.

I would not recommend purchasing a 'N' card quite yet, as the technology is still young, and not all cards work with all routers, and if it did make a difference, it would be minimal.

And yes, you could by an 'N' router and hook it up, but the problem is that you are thinking that you will get a performance gain because 'N' supports higher transfer speeds. This is true, but you will not notice anything when online, browsing or downloading anything. You're speed online is limited by the speed of your connection, and that is nearly always going to be slower than the transfer speed allowed by you're network card. The only benefit that a wireless N card would have is if you are transferring files across a network from computer to computer, and with a compatible router.

Unless your isp is providing a connection faster then 56mbs for you there is no need to have the N its not going to make a difference at all because its gonna be capped at the speed of your ownership.
