neither method 1 nor 2 work

and when i type 'regsvr32 jscript.dll' in run, it says it doesnt exist....
Do you actually like the new search method? Personally I HATE it and always switch to the classic search method. Have you considered trying this. Not really a fix, but maybe it'd work...

If that doesn't work: Reinstall Search Assistant: Go to Start > Run and type %windir%\inf and press Enter key. This should open the Inf folder. Here look for a file named srchasst.inf. Right-click on this file and click Install, you may require Windows installation CD.
